What are the realistic last ditch solutions we can come up with? Ban flights incoming from Africa? Get troops to quarantine the borders there??

Limit travel to western africa by forcing a temproary "quarantine" upon arrival back to the usa for an appropriate waiting period that aligns with the manifestation of ebola symptoms?

Seriously why go to Liberia knowing this disease is running rampant over there?

That would be my suggestion as well. Of course, I'm sure that idea would be met by a vocal group who finds that idea to be oh so mean.

I think the majority of travelers now would be medical personnel, aid workers or missionaries.

These discussions all sound familiar to the ones that were going on when AIDS was first reported in this country.

Which is still a major health crisis in Africa. Ebola has knocked it out of the news spotlight in the western world.

Not being an Ebola or AIDS researcher, I couldn't say if that's true or not.

A quick search reveals the following:

Ebola was first discovered in 1976 in Zaire (now the DR of the Congo). Over time it has evolved into a stronger strain, and there were serious outbreaks in 1998 and again in 2002 in the DRC.

It's been around for 38 years. 38 years to address it, but until the outbreak impacted us no one gave a crap. When 2 Americans get it while doing aid work, there's suddenly an experimental drug available.

And that's why it reminds me of AIDS. No one cared until it showed up in the US.

Yeah that shows some ignorance on my part. I always think of AIDS as sexually transmitted. That's probably a product of a lot of propaganda back in the late 80s and early 90s. I never seem to think of it being transmitted via other fluids. It seems they are identical in spreading. :thumb:

There's simply no money to be made from medication as long as only the third world is affected.

Yeah, that propaganda also said that it only affected gays and junkies. Unreal, when you think about it.
