Re: SNL 40th Aniv Show
It was good overall but some of it was just like "why". The stupidly long Californians sketch, Eddie Murphy doing nothing in particular, Kanye, etc.
Oh well
Oh well

You're allowed one shot at Sir Paul, not two.B-)FreeCandy44 wrote:This Paul sounds better than the other Paul.
Lennon and McCartney watching together when Lorne Michaels pleaded for their reunion. That would have been a moment.
I wonder if they asked for Lennon alone in the early years?
Gilda Radner gone too soon. It was not perfect, but a great TV night.

Haven't watched the whole show yet (Mrs Tif packed it in after the Weekend Update thing), but up to this point it has been pretty spectacular. So many loltastic bits.

Re: SNL 40th Aniv Show
Only thing that kinda bothered me was when Chris Rock hyped Eddie Murphy as practically the greatest SNL cast member, and then he comes out with nothing funny.
Also Chevy Chase looking like he's about ready to burst out of his tux.

Re: SNL 40th Aniv Show
I didn't get it. 3 minutes of show, then commercial. Repeat. Worse than a NFL game. I turned it off, so maybe it got better? I suppose it would be better on dvr, but it was a 3.5 hour show showing parts of sketches that just made me want to turn on Netflix and watch the best of so I could see the entire sketch. I enjoyed Seinfeld talking to Larry David.

Re: SNL 40th Aniv Show
A few things...
* It was not a SNL show, it was not supposed to be. It was a 40th anniversary special. It is supposed to be talking about the 40 years, showing clips that made those 40 years great, and maybe redoing doing old skits/characters as tributes (ie: Jeopardy and even Roseanne Roseannadanna).
* The Californians sketch had no place in this show. Not only did it not make sense in theory, it was not a good sketch period. The cut other things to do that sketch? How bad were the other sketches?
* The musical guests were bad choices. Kanye West? Seriously? I don't even get that. Miley Cyrus? Paul McCartney needs to retire from performing, PERIOD! He has that old person shaky cotton mouth thing going on which is NOT good for a singer. Paul Simon was the only one that actually made sense since he was a big supporter in the early and dark days.
* A John Lovitz devil cameo would have been cool.
* I know that the original cast gets a lot of cred for the show... but it is amazing to think what came out of the 84-85 season. Billy Crystal and Martin Short were only on the show for 1 season. Think about their characters and then consider that all of that is from only 1 season.
* The 40th overall, there were a few questionable choices and a couple straight bad choices... but the majority of the show was pretty good.

Did they show the chippendales sketch? It doesn't get much better than that for me. I always enjoyed watching other people trying to keep a straight face when Farley was on.

Celebrity Jeopardy was the highlight and that happened pretty early on.

Re: SNL 40th Aniv Show
I thought they could have sprinkled in some "behind the scenes" precorded commentary about famous sketches.
Could have drown in the cast members who have passed... like have David Spade talk about why he laughed so much at Farley's motivational speaker sketches with maybe a little insight into something that happened during rehearsal.
If it was me - I'd cut the music out totally. I could care less who the musical guest was for any show ever... and if I'm watching a recorded version of SNL I just fast forward the music act.

That was definitely the highlight for me as well... The Californians sketch killed the entire thing, and then I got back into it and Kanye performed and killed it again.skullman80 wrote:Celebrity Jeopardy was the highlight and that happened pretty early on.
