Anyone into Phoenix? Their new, modestly titled album "Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix", is awesome.

found this on youtube during lunch

Egg Hunt was a side project of ex-Minor Threat members Ian MacKaye and Jeff Nelson. They released one self-titled 7" in 1986.

The 2nd track, "We All Fall Down" was actually an outtake from MacKaye's first post-Minor Threat band, Embrace.

Track 1 - "Me And You": " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Track 2 - "We All Fall Down": " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Egg Hunt has been also been rumored to be the inspiration for popular internet meme Ceiling Cat*

Also, this is an oral fornication song, isn't it. Yet this music is geared toward the 13 yeard old age group. :?

Just picked up the new mewithoutYou record "It's all crazy. It's all false. It's all a dream. It's alright." Super good...weird, even for their standards, as it was inspired by Sri Lankan fables. Aaron tends to use his weird, almost kermit-like singing voice for most of the album, but it works for this stuff.

I plan on picking up the new So Many Dynamos album "The Loud Wars" later today or tomorrow. I listened to a stream of it, and it rules. http://www.buzzgrinder.com/stream-so-ma ... loud-wars/ for the stream, if you're interested.

Also, I've had the album for awhile, but just recently fully listened to it and "Never Better" by P.O.S. is the best hip-hop album released in a long, long time. It's very indie for hip-hop...think Aesop Rock but with a little more rhythm.

Out of curiosity, I went to Amazon and I'm listening to the preview (all tracks) and... is there any more music to this than on these samples? Any singing? Because halfway through, all I hear is just some dude talking. Not messing with you, I just don't know what to do with this stuff.

Was that a Black Sabbath sample in track 2?

I don't think so on the Black Sabbath...

And, well, it is hip-hop so, there's not much singing (there is some, though)...more, you know, rapping. If you don't like hip-hop, it's probably not for you...

I respect any rapper that references Mitch Hedberg, The Big Lebowski, and Fugazi, to name a few.

I checked out the allmusic page on mewithoutyou....i think i'll check that out, i've been on like an old post-hardcore/emo-core/screamo whatever you want to call it kick with bands like hot water music, grade, and at-the-drive-in lately...i need this stuff to balance all the cheesy electro pop stuff that i also listen to all the time....speaking of which, the neon indian ep is pretty cool, it's some real groovy electro-pop.

mewithoutYou definitely fits that bill...plus their singer is an amazing lyricist. Some of the stuff off of "Catch for Us the Foxes" and "Brother, Sister" could be found in poetry anthologies. Listen, especially, to the song "Paper Hanger". Genius.

It's a stupid name...really stupid...it's scottish indie-folk...kind of a little emoish....i was kind of into them, but then i saw them play a show at cmu last winter and it was awesome and after seeing them i have been all about the album.
Oh yeah, this. I checked out 3 random songs on YouTube. Didn't really like it. The singer sounds too wussy for my liking, especially. If I listen to Alternative, which isn't too often, but I do, I like it to have an edge to it. Maybe you can give me 3 particular song names that represent them best. The music style isn't really bad, just the whole thing didn't do it for me.

Did you ever listen to The Oohlas? See, this is the kind of Alternative I like. Especially if they feature a female singer. Little grungy. They had an entire show on DirecTV recently and I don't think they had one bad song. Great sound, little edgy, memorable songs you could hum later, cool organ, sexy girl singing. I mean, I really, really, liked it.

This performance isn't great - it was 100% times better on DirecTV - but I can't get enough of this song. Plus, I never expect great musicianship from an Alternative group and that's not what I look for in there.

There are a handful of bands coming out of scotland that play that style like that...the twilight sad, dananana ackroyd and we were promised jetpacks...i like the stuff but its definitely for everyone...

allmusic guide has mates of state as a similar artist to the oohlas...but again you did say you were a fan of "edgy" music...j/k, i've never heard any of their stuff....but i'll check it out.

What are your thoughts on grade? I've been listening to their stuff a good bit lately....i was into them back in high school, but i basically renounced everything screamo when that got cool with the mall punks because back then i couldn't listen to anything that other people liked....back when i was young and pretentious about music.

Well, I meant edgy for Alternative. There are alt. bands like the Sundays, who are as soft as a bunny, and there is Nirvana or a band like Babes in Toyland (huge giant fan). Oolahs seem to have that little crunch in their music, in addition to the pretty melodies. :wink:

Well, here's the deal with that. That was off their first album, which was pretty much all screaming. Which is cool...but it's my least favorite of the three so far.

I would listen to "Sidewalk When She Walks", "No Transitory", "Crisis", "This Could Be Anywhere In The World"...there is still screaming, but it's probably 50/50 singing/screaming. And the singer (not the screamer) has an acoustic/indie folk project called City and Colour that is really, really good.

No Transitory - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpO834GI ... re=related

What's weird is I've never really gotten into Grade. The few songs I've heard, I've liked (my gf likes them a lot) but, I just never put the time and effort into it.

This was good. I liked it. Some music just draws you in and you lose yourself in it. Worked for me. Going to dig up the whole album somewhere online and listen to the whole thing.

Yup. I like it enough to want to get their other stuff. I'll probably buy the CDs. Weird name for a band though. I'd never give them a try if not for the recommendation here.
