Odds and ends around the NHL:
--Sounding like Carolina is getting close to signing Guentzel
--DET is said to be heavily looking into the goalie market
--Sounds like Reinhart will take some type of discount, and stay in Florida. Also sounds like Montour wants to go to market and priced himself out of Florida.

He could work in Sully's system for a year or two.

Re: Random Penguins Fodder
Buffalo has two young goalies and if Jarry is known around the league as a 1A goalie that might be a fit. It will allow Buffalo to trade Levi. LA Kings might be a match, maybe several others if Jarry’s value is as a 1A rather than a 50 game/year goalie. Yes his contract would be high for that role, but if the team has an ELC or low salary goalie it might work.Mad City Mike wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2024 11:55 amThe Jarry market.FLPensFan wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2024 11:52 am

Re: Random Penguins Fodder
Toronto and San Jose are two other teams that seem to have no readily apparent answer in goal. Jarry would instantly become the Shark's starter and he would be better than what Toronto has trotted out there for the past couple of seasons, or form a duo with Woll, although, I figure, Toronto would want salary retention on Jarry. But, something tells me that Detroit may be the one. They seem to be mentioned most often.Daniel wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2024 12:50 pmBuffalo has two young goalies and if Jarry is known around the league as a 1A goalie that might be a fit. This is exactly the type of consideration we need to 100% stop having be a factor.

Why? As long as he's the coach, you try to find players who will prosper playing his style. As I said, Atkinson is not that guy. But why not match players to the existing system?Antonio wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2024 1:36 pmThis is exactly the type of consideration we need to 100% stop having be a factor.

Seravalli was apparently saying that nobody wants John Gibson.
Flames reported shopping Kadri. 33 years old, 7M AAV and full NMC up to 2029.

The Montour pint is funny considering I just read this morning that FLA is trying to trade Ekblad to make room for Montour.FLPensFan wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2024 11:52 amOdds and ends around the NHL:

Everything I am hearing is that any room they are trying to clear is to make sure they can keep Reinhart. He's their #1 priority. My viewpoint as a Panthers fan is, yes, Reinhart is extremely talented, but the Panthers could survive losing Reinhart more than they can losing Montour. Montour is clearly the top RHD option if he goes to market. The other options out there would be Sean Walker or Tyson Barrie, probably the best UFA options. If they move Ekblad, then they'll need to add TWO RHD. Personally, it would hurt, but I'd look to move Verhaeghe to make some cap room. His contract expires next year and he's going to be expensive. Bennett also expires next year.Pitts wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2024 2:35 pmThe Montour pint is funny considering I just read this morning that FLA is trying to trade Ekblad to make room for Montour.FLPensFan wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2024 11:52 amOdds and ends around the NHL:

Or, pull off an Ekblad trade, give Montour Ekblad's contract, and sign Barrie or Walker to replace Ekblad. But, it sounds like Reinhart really wants to stay and will give a discount to do so.

Guentzel rumored to be getting an 8 year, 8M AAV contract from Carolina. According to the rumors, that was his ask. (That's IT???) I think that is fair value but he'd get more from NY or VAN on the open market. Problem with Vancouver is the taxes would knock that down a lot.

Re: Random Penguins Fodder
Patrick Allvin says they tried with Zadorov, but he is going to free agency on Monday.
Seravalli also says Devils are looking to move Marino, and now that Zadorov isn't signing in Vancouver, Marino to VAN could gain some traction. Wouldn't surprise me for FGMJR/Allvin to go with what they know.

I'd guess NY's taxes are way worse than North caorlina's, too. I'm guessing there is also a city tax there.FLPensFan wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2024 2:47 pmGuentzel rumored to be getting an 8 year, 8M AAV contract from Carolina. I do not believe that. If that was something he would agree to, then why didn't Carolina offer that a long time ago?FLPensFan wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2024 2:47 pmGuentzel rumored to be getting an 8 year, 8M AAV contract from Carolina. $8mill X 8 years for Jake is a steal. No idea why Jake would sign that offer now, 3 days before he can get offers on Monday.
Only way he should sign with Carolina now would be if they overpaid for him.

Maybe he really did enjoy his time in Carolina and really wanted the 8 year term, but was willing to take about a million dollars per year less in the process.KG wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2024 3:21 pm$8mill X 8 years for Jake is a steal. Blues trade a 2025 4th to Columbus for Alexander Texier. Blues then sign Texier for 2 years, 2.1M AAV.
Oilers re-sign goalie Calvin Pickard for 2 years, 1M AAV.
