I also think Canes will be competitive that entire 8 years which is why he is taking a small discount. Pens could not match that environment even now let alone 4+ years from now.dark_forces wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2024 3:53 pmMaybe he really did enjoy his time in Carolina and really wanted the 8 year term, but was willing to take about a million dollars per year less in the process.KG wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2024 3:21 pm$8mill X 8 years for Jake is a steal. No idea why Jake would sign that offer now, 3 days before he can get offers on Monday.
Only way he should sign with Carolina now would be if they overpaid for him.

No. That would be retarded. 5 years left at $7 million for a 33 year old and then we still have to find another goalie.

Kadri will got to a contender. Boston would have interest I'm sure.

I would've made that same deal for Texier. I don't know how well he performs against the rest of the league, but he always shined against the Pens.FLPensFan wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2024 4:42 pmBlues trade a 2025 4th to Columbus for Alexander Texier. Blues then sign Texier for 2 years, 2.1M AAV.

Overpaid - check
NMC - check
6'0 about 185 lbs - check
Seems right in the Penguins organizational strategy. Wait, is he still physical? That might overrule everything.

Never like him. But, if the Oilers attach a first I would consider it. 2 years left at just over 5M. These are the kind of bail-out deals I would hope Dubas could work out. We get a player a team is trying to dump plus some draft capital and who knows maybe we trade him at the deadline this year or next.KG wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2024 8:24 pmSounds like the Oilers are trying hard to move out Evander Kane...

I think that's what he will be looking for too. Not necessarily Kane and I doubt Edmonton would attach a first. But similar to Mikheyev trade where we can get a 2nd round pick for taking a short term contract on etc.lemieuxReturns wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2024 9:17 pmNever like him. Re: Random Penguins Fodder
Last season, the Penguins scored 253 goals as a team. The season prior (22-23), secondary goal scoring was a problem...and we scored 261 goals that year, even with 20+ game slumps for Carter, McGinn, and Kapanen.
23-24: 253
22-23: 261
21-22: 269
20-21: 193 (COVID shortened season, this was actually 2nd most goals scored in the league)
19-20: 221 (COVID shortened season, this was middle of the pack, 13th overall)
18-19: 271
17-18: 270
16-17: 278 (lead the league)
15-16: 241 (3rd overall...weird that league wide goal scoring was down 20-30 goals league wide)
This team in general has been trending downwards. We don't need a top 6 player (though DeBrusk would be nice...not happening though), but, there is a definite need of building a bottom 6 that can contribute more than 8-10 goals for a 3rd liner.
This coming season reminds me a bit of when we brought in Jankowski, and Simon, and Erod, and brought back Kapanen. The team seemed to be banking on 4-5 guys going off an all raising their numbers to have career years. In reality, you are probably lucky if you can get 2 guys to do that. "Banking on" that 4 or 5 players are all going to take a step forward to improve your team isn't really a sound plan.

Re: Random Penguins Fodder
Word is that Lightning offered Stamkos 8 years @ 3M AAV and he turned it down. Before you think, he's 34, why 8 years, or why only 3M...this was actually genius by Brisebois.
It's almost the same as offering him 3 years @ 8M AAV. It's 24M total either way, but TB can't fit 8M under their cap. Doing it this way, Stamkos gets the same payout spread out over a longer period, and then LTIRetires to get all of his money.
Maybe Stamkos comes back to TB, depending on what teams out there offer him. He scored 40 goals last year, but I think other teams would rather give money to someone younger like a DeBrusk or Reinhart. I see Stamkos getting closer to 6M out in the open market. I may be dead wrong on that, but we shall see.

Re: Random Penguins Fodder
I actually liked what KD said.. we want to get younger and hungrier,he said that multiple times now! And yes he prefers short term deals, maybe 2-3 yrs contracts for UFA.. he wants picks or prospects in possible Jarry or Smith deals?!
Also said Quinn is the his own persona, he will push Sully and make his own input on team, he wont be just Sully's slave lol, silent cricket, despite their long friendship.
So whats not to like??
Ponomarev, Puustinen,Poulin, St.Ivany, Gruden mentioned as NHL players.. I'm also hopeful for Koivunen, he could be first or second callup of season. I think it will come down to keeping Puustinen or Koivunen later ,down the road.
3P 4th line: Poulin - Ponomarev - Puljujarvi would be great to see, even tho its shame Ponomarev aint R handed..if Acciari is traded for pick, we still need RH C. Acciari I would kinda like to see what he can provide on his natural spot, RW, before he goes.

First the Shark help out the Rangers, now the Wings. Why these teams take on these contracts is beyond me. Let's see what the Rangers have to pay to get out of the Trouba albatross contract.

Re: Random Penguins Fodder
Sounds like Tampa offered Stamkos $3mill AAV but for 8 years lol. Comes out to the same total to a team offering 3 years $8mill AAV. Pretty creative I suppose, but it's ridiculous how they are handling their captain.
I'm sure if Stamkos leaves he will go to a contender, but I would love to see him on Sid's LW.
