Kevin Na leading the Players Championship after 54 holes...man, what a painful player to watch. He is an absolute basketcase when he is on the tee.

i golf with a guy that does that, we always make fun of him to the point that he stops doing it... the only difference is that Na seems to hit the ball just fine after standing over it for 30 seconds, my buddy actually has a direct correlation to length of standing over the ball to crappiness of his shot.

Someone point me towards a good place to buy golf clubs. I think I am going to need a +1 length.

I do currently play and I don't know my handicap. I would say its very high though as I'm just a casual golfer. I don't "lose" balls on the course, but I surely dont ever par any holes. :lol: I'm there for the beer drinking.

The reason I say +1 shaft is the clubs I have now are not long enough for me and I think that's why I'm all screwed up. But, they are graphite shafts which I am reading are already 1 inch longer than steel, so if I get +1 steel, won't that be the same length as the graphite ones?

Also I am not looking to spend a fortune. Like, $200 is my max. I have a nice set now, that I am going to sell, because they are too short.

go for a cheap set on ebay somewhere. if you're not looking to pay serious cash and if you're more than a 15 handicap (sounds like you are) then just get something cheap that fits. It doesn't really matter what club you're using until you get better. Same thing with golf balls. Don't go out and buy ProV1's because you don't need them.

lol i know right. My floor to wrist is 38.5 inches and I'm 6' 3"

I didn't want to buy an $800 set of callaways. Like I said I was looking for maybe a reputable site that sells those clone clubs and asking mainly if a +1 steel shaft is the same length as a graphite shaft.

Not sure on the graphite vs. steel question, I would have sworn they were the same.

If you wanted to go cheap, Ebay has had some Wilson Di11's go for $250 brand new this week. Those are this years model, and have got some great reviews as "Super Game Improvement" Irons (ie, lets just get the ball airborne and straight). Almost bought them myself to try out. Of course the trick with ebay is that you won't be able to get your +1 as they'll probably be standard lie and loft. Also saw a bunch of Callaway Diablo Edge R's go for like $270 still in wrapping as well. As you mentioned, Callaways are cloned a lot so I'm not sure if those were legit or not.
As for club fitting, Ping will tell you you should be looking for +1/2 and 4° upright. The only real way to know is to go get fit, but you kind of have to have a consistant swing for that. So I'd probably stick to worrying about the length (and you could always play +1's and grip a bit lower) and think about lie angle's later.

I am going to measure my graphites today to see if they are indeed standard length.

These are the ones I was thinking of going with, my buddy has a TaylorMade bag he'll sell me, and maybe I'll get a nice driver, possibly used from craigslist, etc.

seriously though, mac, just buy a cheap set somewhere (or even just keep the ones you have now). I had thought about getting new clubs (i bought a cheap set of clones about 4 years ago) but then I realized I've gone from about a 25 handicap to a 13 handicap using the same set of clubs, just playing more. really it doesn't matter what clubs you're using until you get good at it.

Godric, meh...whatever. Not worth my time to reply to that. Long story short, you don't like golf then this isn't the thread for you.

I've had all my buddies who are much more serious about golf than me tell me my clubs are too short. I mean, its almost unnatural the position I have to stand in. I'm not saying I'll turn in to Tiger Woods with a +1 set but I think it might be a slight improvement.

i have a +1.5" set. I'm 6'5". The problem is cheap and custom clubs don't go hand in hand. One good option you might want to think about is cheap knock off clubs (clone clubs) which is what I have. I was in the same situation. My clubs were too short, I wanted them longer, didn't want to spend a crap load of cash. some websites to check out: http://www.customgolfstop.com/index.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (where i got mine), http://www.pinemeadowgolf.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, and http://www.diamondtour.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Taylormade irons are about 1/2 longer standard than the rest of the pack.
Clubs do make a big difference. I just bought a set of TM burner plus irons and have already seen a difference in my game. Cavity backed clubs as much easier to hit and get better ball flight. The new Rocketballz set from TM is phenomenal, but prob out of your price range. I am a bigger guy as well 6'4 and I would HIGHLY recommend the Burner Plus. Quick look at the internet you can get them brand new for 289.
