Nice reporting by TSN I'm pretty sure this was our pick.
Gustavsson made nine appearances for Ottawa last season with a 5-1-2 record, a 2.16 goals-against average and a .933 save percentage.
The 23-year-old from Skelleftea, Sweden also played 13 games with the Sens' American Hockey League affiliate, the Belleville Senators, earning a 5-7-1 record.
The Senators picked Gustavsson in the second round (55th overall) of the 2016 NHL entry draft.

Islanders signings:
Ilya Sorokin G 26 - $4Mx3 - 22 NHL games under his belt. KHL standout stud, but the KHL is NOT the NHL. Not insane money by any means, but a risk.
Kyle Palmieri W 30 - $5Mx4 - He had an off year last year. Could be a very solid signing, or horrible by year 3.
Anthony Beauvillier W 24 - $4.15Mx3 - Currently a 20/20 guy, plus really good playoff performer.
Casey Cizikas C 30 - $2.5Mx6 - Physical, good at faceoffs, defensive. Great 4C, okay 3C. He will be 37 when this expires. This is a contract to make him a potential career Islander.

Today, Penguins signings were quietly not discussed in the hallways between the break room and cubicles.
A birthday card was passed around for an office member new to the team; however, it was placed in a desk drawer once the new member said that the birthday was 5 months ago... The cake order was subsequently cancelled. Annual allocated office funds are still under budget.

Sorry, I thought this posting forum had been closed. NPR is open.
You and I are proof.
I had read that the Ducks of Anaheim will possibly be looking for a new vendor to manage parking. Local radio sports guru mentioned it...
My company put in our bid. Come opening day, I could make some money directing traffic.

I've been trying to get people to realize that there are other sections of the overall board, specifically for NPR stuff.
That's not something that i have actually thought about before. I just kind of figured that the parking, like the food inside, was basically a monopoly (insert more appropriate term) where such-n-such company just does it.

Seattle picks free agent Twarynski from the Flyers in the ED, sign him to a one year deal, and waive him.
Yet another example of the fail that was Seattle's ED.

James Neal has fallen to signing a $750K deal in St.Louis. 6 teams in 7 years.
Career highlight is that the Pens got Hornqvist for him.

Caps trying to clear cap space by putting $2.5M Kempny on waivers. hurt last year, but useage wise he would parallel Pens usage of Pettersson.

#5 overall not too long ago traded for ... some other nothings. It sucks when your #26 overall 1st rounder doesn't pan out. It REALLY sucks when your #5 doesn't pan out.

Seattle Kracken, 3 games in...
#1 scorer: Brandon Tanev
#2 scorer: Jared McCann
Was looking at some early faceoff numbers and noticed this.

Jack Eichel, 2023 3rd
-for-
Alex Tuch, Peyton Krebs, 2022 1st, 2023 3rd
Not quite the Matthew Tkachuk, a former 1st round player, 1st, and 2 prospects.
Wash the 1st, Krebs is a "former 1st" so wash him...
Tuch, 3rd vs Tkachuk, 2 prospects. wash a 3rd and a prospect
Tuch vs Tkachuk and a prospect
Yeah, the Calgary rumor was a bit out there.

Re: NHL trades, rumors, banter, free agency etc
Comparing to the Kessel dealJim wrote:Eichel isn't chopped liver. He is a point producer... (to use a player that everyone should actually know as a comparable)
But he is not all that good at faceoffs, has the physical play of Kessel, the defensive play of Kessel, and possibly less leadership abilities than Kessel.
He is 25 years old and cost $10M for another 4 years past this one. Kessel was 27 when he was traded to the Pens, at $6.8M.
So, more point production, but lesser/even everything else on the ice, 2 years younger while $3.2M more than Kessel.
Kessel cost a late 1st (#30), a prospect (19 yr old Kapanen), a 3rd, a cap dump (Spaling). and Harrington and got Kessel (W $1.2M ret) and a 2nd (#61), and 2 AHLers. (I forgot about the 2nd coming back)
So the Kessel deal was:
Late 1st, #3 prospect, 3rd, small cap dump
for
Target, 2nd
What does an Eichel trade translate to if using that as a base? Sure as heck not anything in the neighborhood of "Matthew Tkachuk, a 1st round pick, a former 1st round player, and 2 prospects" You can take Tkachuk out of that and it is still only a maybe on a comparables scale.
1st, 3rd, Kapanen, Spaling, and Harrington -for- Kessel (W $1.2M ret), 2nd, and 2 AHLers.
1st, 2nd, Alex Tuch, Peyton Krebs -for- Jack Eichel, 3rd
Cut off similars:
3rd, Kapanen, Spaling, Harriington -for- Kessel ($1.2M ret), 2nd, 2 AHLers
2nd, Tuch, Krebs -for- Eichel, 3rd
offset
Spaling, Harriington -for- Kessel ($1.2M ret), 2 AHLers
Krebs -for- Eichel
In general I think that Eichel got no where near what people were suggesting (because they are non-sane), but being that I think that Eichel actual value is just a touch higher than Kessel's at the time of the trade... this seems equivalent.
Krebs is a little better than Spaling + Harrington
27yo Kessel ($1.2M ret) + stuff is realistically about equal to 25yo Eichel

Kessel helped bring 2 Cups to the Pens. IMHO, and I could be wrong but, I don't see Eichel as doing that in Vegas. It's not that he's a slouch player because he's not, I just don't see him as the missing piece. I wish him well though.

Vegas has over $26 million on LTIR right now. I guess they are going to pull a Tampa and figure out which of Eichel, Stone or Pacioretty to sit out the rest of the year until the playoffs, or maybe even two of the three, unless they make some moves.

Rutherford is now the new GM in Vancouver...wonder if he is still very enamored with some of the current Pens players and he will take on some salary.

Rutherford confirmed he will have full autonomy before he accepted the position.
Have to think that was the reason why he left the Pens.
