Could the Red Sox be in a worse injury situation right now? The top three hitters in the batting order are out and their second best pitcher is out. If they can survive this and stay close they'll be in good shape.
Yeah it's pretty ridiculous right now. If you would've told me that Darnell McDonald, Bill Hall and Jeremy Hermida would all play more games individually than Cameron and Ellsbury combined at this point, I'd think they'd be at least 10 games out.
Although by the trade deadline, it's completely possible that they "add" Buchholz, Beckett, Pedroia, Martinez, Ellsbury, a healthy Cameron and possibly Jed Lowrie as the Utility guy. That's a huge plus if they can tread water till then.
A revised bond rating issued by Standard & Poor’s today provides an in-depth look at the New York Yankees’ 2009 revenues and it reveals that the champions grossed $397 million in ticket revenue, including $72 million on the postseason alone.
SI had a good article this week on how well the pitching has been this season in MLB. Awesome to see, I liked all the homeruns when it was happening but watching all the young pitchers coming into the league and having success is a lot more enjoyable.
The credit outlook on more than $1 billion of municipal debt issued to help finance a new baseball stadium for the New York Yankees was raised to positive by Standard & Poor’s as the team’s World Series-winning season last year boosted ticket sales and attendance.
S&P affirmed its BBB- rating, the lowest of 10 investment grades, on the bonds backed by ticket revenue. The previous outlook for the debt was stable.
Madison Bumgarner is starting to look pretty legit. I'm definitely not regretting taking him over Matusz in the LGP league. Gave up 3 hits through 8 tonight.
PghSkins got it right. The Yankees are doing nothing wrong. MLB is the problem. Its not like the Yankees are just taking players, they draft and develop well. Rather than waiting for players to finish their development once the get to MLB, they send ready or near-ready players to other teams. They make fair trades. Until there is a salary cap, there is no reason for them not to do it.

It's the system that sucks. The big market teams are playing within the rules, the rules just suck.
I'm happy the Yanks didn't do that deal. They've avoided doing these rental trades in recent years and it has benefited them for the most part. I do think they need to add another pitcher, but the cost for Lee was too steep when you combine it with the money they'd have to spend to sign him to an extension to really make it worth it for them.
I'm also happy the Rangers got him. I really like what the Rangers have done to develop their team in recent years.

Same here, I think he'll do really well down there to finish off the rest of the season. Especially with the way they let their pitchers work deeper into games since Nolan Ryan has taken over. Lee was already great at going deep (twss) and should be a great fit there.
I hope more teams do what Ryan has done with the Texas pitchers (assuming they don't have a rash of arm injuries crop up). After seeing the Yankees botch Joba Chamberlain and flirt with doing the same to Hughes I get really tired of the strict innings limits. I think increased conditioning and letting them go deeper into games is a step in the right direction.

Agree, I can see situations where it isn't the best for all young pitchers. But I really believe that for most of them letting them go out and pitch regularly with no restrictions is the best way to go. I guess no restrictions isn't the best but as far as saying they'll only go 85 pitches or 6 innings on a certain day regardless of performance or skipping extra days between starts to give them extra rest and save innings just isn't a good way to handle young arms imo. They need to get into a rhythm and further develop their arm to get used to the big league season.
