I've asked this question over and over again when it comes to my wedding. The conclusion I came to for all of those questions is, "who cares? it's my wedding, I'll do what I want."

If he or someone has an iPhone and there is wifi there you can control the comp with the remote app via the wifi network so he wouldn't have to be up there

If he's game, I see no issue with it at all. We were thinking of something similar. I was absolutely floored by how expensive DJs are.

Yeah, cheapest DJ we can find is $500 and is a friend of a friend of a friend and thats the price he did one of the friends weddings at. Not even sure if thats what he would charge us.

The big downside to not getting a 'professional' DJ (most are side jobs anyway I feel) is that they are usually the MC, and usually have good personality and are funny and can work the crowd a little bit.

Yeah, if there's no DJ you won't have anyone to give you introductions, tell people when it's time to eat, time for bridal dance, etc. But if you're fine with that I see no issue.

I agree. In the grand scheme of things, our DJ is like 6% of our budget. Not really worth it to cut it out.

I put out an ad on Craigslist and got a professional DJ for $300 because he had an open date and wanted it filled. Everyone at the wedding loved him and he did a fantastic job MC'ing and playing the songs we wanted and our guests requested.

Thanks for the idea. Prob gonna try that. Did you just put what you were willing to pay, or any other type of requirements? How did you make sure you got someone decent or just a gamble?

I just checked out the functionality on my Cabela’s account. If you have an online Cabela’s account you can make the wish list for the account public, and people can search for your name and see the list. If you buy something that’s on someone’s wish list, it will show how many people have purchased. For example, I listed that I wanted a seven of a certain item, and then I logged out. I then searched for my own wish list, and after each item it has “number desired” and “number received.” So if someone were to buy me four of those things, it should show that I still want three more. That prevents people from buying duplicates.

So basically, yeah, Cabela’s can do a wedding registry. People could shop for stuff online and have the gifts sent right to you, and if they pay attention to the “desired” and “received” numbers you shouldn’t have people getting duplicate gifts.

Wtf are you guys registering for. China made from the bone of virgin maidens?!?!? We did our registry at Macy's too and found a ton of stuff. We picked everyday stuff like Fiestaware and the Oneida service for 8 set. I think all of our flatware was 100 bucks and the Fiestaware settings were like 40 each. I can see those prices for fine china but not for everyday stuff.

My kitchen is stocked with Corelle’s plainest, whitest, cheapest stuff, all purchased from the Corningware outlet store up in Grove City. And if I own it and it’s not plain white Corelle, it’s Pyrex from the same place.

One advantage of the plain white Corelle stuff is that if you break any, you can easily get replacements because they have no plans to ever stop selling that stuff. The last time I was up at the outlet store one of the clerks told me that as long as the company exists, they’ll be making that line of dishes.

Wow. Those are nice and definitely unique, but incredibly pricy, probably because it's a higher end designer. I'd be worried about storing/stacking those, and loading the dishwasher.

To each their own, but if you want to actually get stuff, you may want to reevaluate how badly you want those particular dishes.

We love our Fiestaware, it's oven, dishwasher and freezer safe and it's really durable. Plus it's like Corelle, they'll never stop making it.

Honestly I just liked the look of them. We have a set for every day use that we use from Pier One. Those would probably only be used if we had company over. But we don't really even have our own place so its hard to decide.

We got Corelle for ours. Durable and not bad looking, we didn't want much more than that.

that set isnt for me...mainly because i couldnt drink milk out of the bowl--which is a no-go for me based on principles alone. i dig the design, but that lip is a recipe for chugging disaster. what if you dont feel like washing dishes and you have to get beer out of the tap and into your mouth via a receptacle? cant chug outta that bowl, broooooo.
