this is probably more the exception than the rule, but Fort clocks in at 18% and isn't overbearing with that alcohol taste. The Utopia that I had was good, but that's not an everyday beer.

I can't decide what I am in the mood for.
Very tasty.
Has anyone tried any of the oyster stouts around? I bought a bottle Harpoon 100 Barrel Series Island Creek Oyster Stout the other day. I'll probably open it tomorrow night for game 7. The combination of the tastes intrigues me. Has anyone tried this and can you tell me anything about it?
Incredibly disappointed. Tastes like a normal run of the mill stout to me.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
had a Roy Pitz Watermelon Lager last night. Would have been better off trying a 2 oz sample than a pint. The first sip was ok and had a decent watermelon taste, but then the lager taste overtook it and tasted very burnt. Wasn't a fan.
The 21st Amendment Hell or High Watermelon was much better.

Did you have it from the can or from draft? My friend went to the brewery and raved about the watermelon beer, and when i tried it out here when it was out of a can, it was disgusting.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
been the last two years and probably going again in the next seven days. it's a good time. got to take a beer quiz and give them feedback. they'd bring us two small glasses of beer at a time and we'd compare them. turned out for example that one glass was of 3 days old while the other one was 3 months and stuff like that.Troy Loney wrote:eddysnake wrote:planning a trip to the Dogfish head brewery in July, anyone ever been?

Drinking Harpoon Summer Beer. Crisp and light, pale golden color. Very, very good.

Anyone tried Rivertowne Babbling Blonde? The local dist had a couple cases on the shelf. I love IPA's and would love to support a local brewery but the beer has to stand up. How does it compare to say Dogfish or Stone's?

Is there a sixer stop in the North Hills? I can't think of any right now for some reason...

Had a 6 pack of Shipyard Summer Ale the other week, it was much better than what I remembered. I guess I will just have to try another 6 pack to make sure.

I think with beer it's always important to revisit and make surepfim wrote:Had a 6 pack of Shipyard Summer Ale the other week, it was much better than what I remembered. I guess I will just have to try another 6 pack to make sure.

Couldn't agree more. Beer was meant to be enjoyed, especially in the company of good friends

Yep. 3 Sons Dogs and Suds recently changed its name to 1 for the Road Tap Room. It's in Wexford across from where the Hummer dealership used to be.Kraftster wrote:Is there a sixer stop in the North Hills? I can't think of any right now for some reason...

What is the loophole in the alcohol laws, that allows places like this to exist?
Did it used to be a bar/restaurant and the license carried over?

It was basically like D's in Regent Square, iirc... a Hot Dog Shop/Bar that sells beer.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
There used to be a 7-Eleven in Friendship that sold beer.
You could buy a 40 and sit down at a table in the back and drink it.....It's the only convenience store in PA that I've been to, that had alcohol.
Not sure if it's still there.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Restaurants with liquor licenses in Pennsylvania are allowed to sell beer by the six-pack, I think with a two-at-a-time limit. Most don’t really focus on that aspect of their business, but places like this one do. You’ll notice that they do nominally sell food (usually hot dogs or something else that can be cooked in an instant). I can’t imagine many people are there for the food.
This is the same way that some Giant Eagles now sell beer—they got restaurant liquor licenses for their in-store café areas, and use those licenses to sell beer by the six-pack. It’s a separate business located inside the grocery store. That’s why you have to check out separately at the café’s registers.

Ok, that makes sense.
If restricting beer sales makes any sense, that is.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Made the trip from North Carolina up to Pennsylvania on Thursday. Stopped at Selinsgrove Brewing yesterday and hitting North Country tonight before stopping at Great Lakes in Cleveland and Three Floyds in Indiana on our way to Wisconsin.
