That nomination was not on my radar, but it does seem odd to block a SG appointment.

I don't think we need SG discussion in the ebola thread. Can we get back to fear mongering please?

I don't think we need to care what the surgeon general thinks about guns. I don't think he's responsible for gun control legislation

True, but the concept of forcing gun buyers to disclose their medical records has been discussed before. They are more closely related than you thinkTroy Loney wrote:I don't think we need to care what the surgeon general thinks about guns. I don't think he's responsible for gun control legislation

It seems as if African officials are doing a decent job stemming the spread, via border closings and other measures.

I see that a very gullible person I know the crackpots are already spreading the ebola doesn't exist and is cause by injections by the Red Cross theory.

Re: ¡EBOLA!
Getting back to ¡EBOLA! news...
"A Texas health-care worker who 'may have' handled lab specimens from Ebola victim Thomas Eric Duncan has been isolated on board a Carnival cruise ship in the Caribbean. The worker has shown no symptoms of the disease, according to Carnival, which said it is in close contact with the Centers for Disease Control. A Carnival spokeswoman said the guest will remain on board in voluntary isolation until the ship returns to its home port of Galveston on Sunday."

Doesn't sound like the nurse is showing any symptoms, but has to return due to the CDC's stricter requirements of the hospital workers. My question is, when you come in contact with Ebola, why do you suddenly have the urge to travel in a confined space with a lot of people. I assume the disease convinces you that it's a good idea, so you can spread it and the disease can continue to thrive. That's how it works, right?
Also, there's this...
"A nurse with Ebola may have shown symptoms of the virus as many as four days before authorities once indicated, meaning that she might have been contagious while flying on not just one, but two commercial flights, officials said Thursday."
http://www.cnn.com/2014/10/16/health/us ... index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
More important than all of that, is this article written by World War Z author, Max Brooks.

Because there is absolutely nothing to worry about regarding ebola.nocera wrote:Doesn't sound like the nurse is showing any symptoms, but has to return due to the CDC's stricter requirements of the hospital workers. As an American, and as a parent, I’m not nearly as worried about Ebola as I am about the polio-reminiscent threat of Enterovirus D68.

Re: ¡EBOLA!
Regarding the lab worker, in almost all cases the samples they handle are blind, meaning the lab does not have any identifying information on the patient. Just 'run this test on that vial'. I don't know if protocol is to change that in any way when dealing with highly infectious diseases ('Run this test on that vial..... which we think might be from an Ebola patient, so double down on safety.'), but as we've been learning this hospital does not appear to have been overly concerned with protocol.nocera wrote:My question is, when you come in contact with Ebola, why do you suddenly have the urge to travel in a confined space with a lot of people. Well, they made sure to rush the patient with no insurance out of the hospital...so they follow that protocol well.tifosi77 wrote:Regarding the lab worker, in almost all cases the samples they handle are blind, meaning the lab does not have any identifying information on the patient. Has there been any news on Duncan's family? that would be pretty amazing if none of them got infected.

Re: ¡EBOLA!
dumb comment about insurance. They have not contracted it yet. Just goes to show how hard it is to catch at the early stages of the virus. so everyone on the planes will be fine.
