Anyone ever been to Kaya in the strip? That place freaking rules. If you haven't been there, GO! You will love it. And you can get caipirinhas there.
How about La Tavola in Mt Washington?
Grandview Saloon is great too. And Monteray Bay Fish Grotto is good too. Both have excellent views of the city.

Kaya is fantastic, La Tavola vacillates between average and bad, and Monterrey Bay is good. Never been to Grandview to eat, drinks only.Silence_Dogood wrote:Anyone ever been to Kaya in the strip? I've never been to La Tavola, but I've been meaning to check it out. Maybe I won't, after reading that.

Its non-descript Italian food. You can do better.

Grandview is fine. It's a bit expensive though, and for the money I'd rather go to 17th Street Cafe. But I am extremely biased - it is my favorite restaurant in the city. I freaking love the originality of the menu, and every meal we've had there has been excellent.

Valley Forge Pizza in Phoenixville, PA. Best Italian anywhere in the Delaware Valley.

Awesome, awesome place. It's in a strip mall, so doesn't look like much, but what a place. Best Italian I have ever had, and they have a large menu. Not really a fan of their actual pizza, but everything else is incredible.slappybrown wrote:Ive heard people rave about Valley Forge Pizza, need to try that next time I am out that way.

Never even heard of it. But then, I don't think I have ever been to Ambridge in my life.Silence_Dogood wrote:Ever been to Azul Bar Y Cantina in the Ambridge area? It is excellent.

Yeah, it is probably my second favorite spot in the city - behind 17th Street Cafe.
Ever been to Armstrong's? EXCELLENT food there.
And there's some place in Brookline... it's a hole in the wall attached to a dive bar. Moonlight Cafe. Pretty good food there as well. Homemade Italian stuff, and the price is right.
Ohhhhh and Il Pizzaiolo in Mt Lebo is a good place to sit down and eat pizza. They have some really neat things on their menu. Plus they have fresh buffalo mozzarella. Who doesn't love that?

I've worked everywhere around the city, and I'm always on the lookout for new spots to eat. I worked in that area for a summer a few years ago and was taken aback at how good that place was. the Ambridge/leetsburg area is pretty nasty, but the food at Azul's can't be beat.

Re: Restaurant Recommendations?
For a casual, family dinner on New Year's Eve, any thoughts on Grille on Seventh, August Henry's, or Atrias (North Shore)? Looking to stay in the downtown/Strip or North Shore area and preferably take reservations (Bettis Grill and Rivertowne don't).

not sure about august henry's as a new years eve destination...its ok, they have a fine dining price with a casual atmosphere. i know some people there so i get free drinks...otherwise i'd never go there.

I totally agree, Troy - I think it's a real nice lunch spot, at the very least.Troy Loney wrote:slappybrown wrote:August Henry sucks.

Fair enough -- Ive been there maybe 3 times, and each time it was just bad, bland, tasteless food.Troy Loney wrote:slappybrown wrote:August Henry sucks.

it is what it is...overpriced. if i were going there and paying full price i'd stick to a burger or sandwich. but because i can drink for free i'll get a steak or a piece of fish.
