now take that and check out the Hubble Deep Field Image and do the math.
First a scaled down version:

slightly bigger version:

that's a lot of galaxies out there...and a lot of planets. And all of that is from a section of outer space the size of the tip of a pencil held at arms length from Earth.

Isn't the huge issue with going to Mars, having enough fuel/propulsion to return?thehockeyguru wrote:

The ultimate goal at this point seems to be colonization. Returning for the 1st crew doesnt seem to be an option.

Re: LGP Science Thread
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/hea ... le1788954/In a breakthrough that could revolutionize the way leukemia is treated, Canadian researchers have found a way to create blood from a patch of a person’s own skin.
That means cancer patients may not have to wait for a life-saving donor match to receive a bone-marrow transplant and then face the risk of the body rejecting the blood stem cells as foreign. The treatment for blood conditions, like leukemia and anemia, could come from transfusions derived from a patient’s own skin.
awesome.

Re: LGP Science Thread
That blood from skin story is insane! in this other article, they say :

A 1.6 inch by 1.2 inch area can create enough blood for a transfusion?!?!Stem cells that are derived from human embryos hold significant promise for medical breakthroughs but also carry risks, such as the potential to create tumors.
But researchers say their new method can create enough blood for a transfusion from a four by three centimeter (1.6 by 1.2 inch) patch of adult human skin, and can avoid those potential hurdles.

If we prove there are more dimensions, then what? My mind can't really comprehend it... what practical use will we ever gain from it?

I read a book that was making the case that since humans changed very rapidly at that time, it could have been because of the alleles that we could have inhereted from mating with neanderthals. Seems like a book you might like.doublem wrote:
