Thanks Edward, big help!eddysnake wrote:first you are going to want to go into settings and uncheck roaming notification.eddysnake wrote:2 questions.
1. every time I get a call or make a call a voice says "verizon wireless", how do i make that stop?
2. I got handcent text and like it. When I try to throw my old "text messaging" file into the trash to delete it it still pops up? I've noticed a lot of apps I try to get rid of don't go away. I don't mind if its there, but for whatever reason I turned the phone on today and it said I had texts for "text messaging" and "handcent"...
second, I don't think you do delete the original text app because the later still uses the original for some things.

don't mention it, all you needed to do was a quick google and you could have found that out...eddysnake wrote:Thanks Edward, big help!eddysnake wrote:first you are going to want to go into settings and uncheck roaming notification.eddysnake wrote:2 questions.

Oh dear, are you talking to yourself eddy?
The voice recognition is excellent on Android. You could have done a voice search in Google for your question...
Also, Verizon's voice recognition software in their voicemail and other phone processes is SO bad compared to the Google recognition. It's embarrassing for Verizon to have such garbage on the phone next to Google's superior software.
I actually was narrating text messages with the Android software, and they came out almost perfect...it only had trouble with some proper nouns (Streets, towns near where we live).

yeah. it has trouble with slang and proper nouns, but past that it's usually spot on.

I love the Google Maps GPS system on my Droid X. It's made my old GPS obsolete.

Re: How many of you own a droid?
for those of you who use handcent for texting. is it the free one or did you buy it? I hate how I put words down and it changes them, how do you stop this from happening? ex: i put "VCU" and it automatically puts in "vacuum"

Handcent is free. The only app I've paid for is the Zagat guide.

yeah I just noticed that, I had some features that appear to be blocked so I assumed there was a better pay version...tifosi77 wrote:Handcent is free. The only app I've paid for is the Zagat guide.

Roger that. I love it also.Malkamaniac wrote:I love the Google Maps GPS system on my Droid X. It's made my old GPS obsolete.
One thing that somewhat surprised me, though - I was driving through BFE West Virginia a few days ago and lost my 3G and data service (basically just had 3 bars of regular old reception). I had the 'Satellite GPS assist' option checked on the Navigation, but the phone had a 'searching for driving directions' message box up - however, I could see the map and my location being tracked in the 'background'.... so I assume the GPS was working and was showing the location on the map, but I couldn't see it. Anyone know anything about this? I was wondering if I would have just exited out of my driving route (i.e. remove the destination and just looked at the live map), if that would have at least brought the map out of the 'background'?

Re: How many of you own a droid?
now this is cool...
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/technol ... d-dev.htmlAmazon launched a cloud-based music storage and playback service, called Cloud Drive and Cloud Player, on Monday in a step that is putting it ahead of rivals Apple and Google.
The new service allows users to store their music library into an Amazon Cloud Drive (which can store other types of files and data too) and playback their music using Amazon's Cloud Player which is available on the Web and in the form of an app for Google Android phones and tablets.

Re: How many of you own a droid?
Without 3G the GPS function of the phone is rendered nearly useless. That is the only downside of the google maps gps. Other than that it's insanely useful and as soon as you get 3G back it would pick back up.Ben Klingston wrote:Roger that. Re: How many of you own a droid?
So I think Im just gonna break down and extend my contract with verizon. Chances are when my contracts up I wont switch carriers anyway. I'm looking for a droid, but still not looking to spend alot. I can get the x for I think $200, but an incredible for 100. For someone who really doesn't use (need) their phone for too much more than talk, text, web surf and games is spending the extra 100 for an X worth it? Or could I get by on the Incredible?
