Is it just bad etiquette when people don't only go by whose names are on the card, or ignorance, or indifference, or all. Ugh. And yeah, no reason for a 15 year old to bring a "date" to a wedding.

Yes on both counts.

The audacity and presumptuousness of wedding guests can be astounding. A guest for a 15-year-old: that's one I've never heard of. They expect you to pay for their kid's entertainment: "S/he'll be so boooooored." Not your problem.

Her mom is making cookies...I looked up how many cookies per person. I did not know this was a Pittsburgh only tradition .

I'm not well-traveled on the wedding circuit, but the only places I've ever seen cookie tables are in the Youngstown area, Western PA, and South Philly. I believe the wedding cookie table is one of the great gifts the Italian-American community has given us all.

how much are tuxes supposed to be? We just stopped by Men's Wearhouse... they start at $90 but nice ones are like $130-$180 each??? I think I'm going to stop by a local tux place and see if the prices are better.

Just do what we did and don't wear tuxes at all haha.

That sounds correct. In high school I worked as a "rep" for American Commodore Tuxedo and that was definitely the price range on them 10 or 12 years ago.

My friends and I all actually just bought notch lapel tuxedos for one of our friend's weddings and decided
a) we'd likely be in each others over the next 5 years, so a $500ish outlay now would be a wash. they could be paired with rented vests or a pocket square if needed. a few guys for the two weddings so far rented the entire tuxedo, and it was very easy to find one that looked almost exactly alike
b) we'd have them for fundraiser dinners and whatnot

a notch lapel tux isn't going out of style in the next 80 years.

you can also buy them in that rental price range, if you are so inclined. the materials wont be as high a quality, but nobody looks nice in a rented tuxedo. the jacket sleeves are too long, the pants are too baggy, theyre rushing the morning of trying to take out the back of the jacket, etc.

if you bought one you could
1) have it properly tailored
2) sell it on ebay

I grew up in W. PA among "I-talians," not Italians. I always wondered why on Earth they would you pronounce it "eye-talian" when it's just not. I knew folks who were 100% Italian-American, grandparents off the boat, who pronounced their name...I'll use a made-up facsimile, "Conti"...as "CON-tye" instead of CON-tee. Shouldn't they know how to pronounce their own short, easy-to-pronounce Italian family name, and if they're proud of it, then make an effort to pronounce it correctly? Shouldn't this transcend provincial dialect? I've just always found it peculiar.

Whats the thought on music? Thats about the one thing I'd want to spend money on for a wedding. I think a live band, if you get a good one, can be so much better than any DJ.

I feel like they need to have at least 3 competent singers (of both sexes), a keyboard player who can double as a string section, even more awesome if they have horns.

I went to a wedding in '99 and a band called Spectre (maybe Spectrum) played and they were awesome. Could do everything from In the Mood to Almost Paradise

A friend got married last year and I thought the band at his wedding was pretty lousy. They just weren't good enough - stuff like You Shook me All Night Long was sloppy.

My friend had a band that was pretty good, but in general i'd say just go with a dj.

My great grandfather married a Conti. As far as i know, they pronounce it Con-tee.

We had a DJ. Everyone thought they did a good job. I think as long as you don't get a bad DJ you are fine. They just gotta keep things moving.

We actually met with our DJ last night. We booked them cause we heard they were fun. They said they will bring props do have a few dances with. We were 'meh' on the whole idea, but as long as everyone else is cool with it, I don't care. At that point, pretty sure everyone will be drunk anyway.

Be careful. I shot one wedding where the DJ put YMCA attire on the bride, groom and wedding party so that everyone would have more "fun". Super lame. Of course, I was pretty jaded at that point. Maybe everyone else did think it was fun.

maybe i'm weird, but i hate white people music at parties (i see the irony of calling "shout" white people music). if i'm going to be dragged on the dance floor, i need something with a clear rhythm.

but to answer your question, i'd absolutely rather hear a recording. it's guaranteed to be a better version than the cover band's.
