Dammit, I was hoping Droid would have a Root App Store. Maybe in the near future.

You know why I love android? Because I can completely brick it, and have it cleaned and re-installed in a matter of 20 minutes or so.

Re: How many of you own a droid?
The update went well, except that it bricked on me after the reboot. I had to reseat the battery...and then alles gut.
I was working on a mobile website for our library, and it worked fine before the update. Worked fine on our iPad, fine in my browser, but it wouldn't work on my 2.3 Droid X. This morning, without touching any code, it works on my X great. Beyond weird.

Yes. The update itself went well, but the phone bricked about 30 minutes after the update completed.Malkamaniac wrote:Are you updated to Gingerbread now?Digitalgypsy66 wrote:The update went well, except that it bricked on me after the reboot. I had to reseat the battery...and then alles gut.

No, just standard Verizon build of Android. I might play around with rooting at some point, but I am happy with it for the time being.

Hmm that's strange, I was rooted, then bricked my phone because I couldn't get the update to work. So I flashed back to stock, and went from there.Digitalgypsy66 wrote:No, just standard Verizon build of Android. Re: How many of you own a droid?
My Droid X updated last night. It's not rooted.
After the update, 2 problems that I can't figure out how to fix:
1) My phone now makes the same audible notification sound for incoming emails as it does for text messages. It used to just give audible notification for texts, which is what I want - I don't want notification for emails. I go to Settings>Sound, but the only applicable setting I can see is for Notification ringtone; can't see anywhere that allows you to select which type of things get audible notifications.
2) The https://mobile.twitter.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; website will not load. All I get is a black screen with the twitter logo in the middle and a small dot that moves left to right.... like it's trying to connect. In the address bar, there is a little padlock to the left next to the web address, like it is 'locked' or something. No idea what this means. I tried connecting to the non-mobile version of twitter, which I used to be able to connect to on my phone, but now it automatically goes to the mobile site.
Any thoughts?

Re: How many of you own a droid?
Messaging > Menu Button > Messaging Settings > Email > Notifications > Select Ringtone > Silent
I have 2 issues... My yahoo account was no longer automatically fetching email... only if I went into it. This may be due to them releasing their own app, which does work - but you can't control its ringtone.
Other one is that there doesn't seem to be a way to quickly jump to the far right or left "page" anymore.
For positivies... #1 is speed. There was a noticable increase from 2.1 to 2.2 and there is definitely another jump from 2.2 to 2.3. Also, my wifi now kicks in almost instantly... it used to take awhile for some reason.
Still trying to get used to the visual changes though.

Re: How many of you own a droid?
Ugh. OK, this update is like learning a new phone all over again.
Ok, so on my X, I had groups of contacts that I could call up and select when sending a text. Now, when I click on text messaging and the 'to' field, it auto-guesses who I want to send to, but I can't find how to select groups or contacts.... help?

Re: How many of you own a droid?
Okay... axed the yahoo mail app. What an annoying piece of software that is. You have zero control over its notifications besides on/off. You can't choose a tone and you have to have both the tone and vibrate. On top of that, it doesn't put the messages into the message widget... you have to open the notification bar and go into the message/app from there.
Removed and readded my Yahoo account on the message widget and now it is syncing the Inbox again... must have gotten hosed in the upgrade.
Also, it seems there is kinda a way to jump to the far tabs... if you tap the home button while on the home screen, it will open a page where you can select any page to jump to... this means you have to tap it twice if not already on the home page though... I preferred the arrows that would appear in the last release.
