We actually met with our DJ last night. We booked them cause we heard they were fun. They said they will bring props do have a few dances with. We were 'meh' on the whole idea, but as long as everyone else is cool with it, I don't care. At that point, pretty sure everyone will be drunk anyway.
Be careful. I shot one wedding where the DJ put YMCA attire on the bride, groom and wedding party so that everyone would have more "fun". Super lame. Of course, I was pretty jaded at that point. Maybe everyone else did think it was fun. :?
That happened at my cousins wedding. I was not a fan of dressing up like that at all. It was super lame.

I would flat out refuse. The people that have had/are about to have me to their weddings know such things and leave me out of the wedding party. :pop: Actually they just aren't the kind of people that would do something like that.

It was funny, then looks in their eyes when we said no chicken dance, no shout, no electric slide... It was like we were twisting the knife. Then he said "what about a grease mashup" and we just said okay.. Forgot about ymca. Crap

The DJ is right up there with the quality of booze as the key factor to people enjoying your wedding. Our DJ was incredible. We went to a wedding where the bride haughtily told us that she refused to play the "typical wedding songs" like Shout, etc. Instead, there was a heavy helping of Jimmy Buffett and other songs that you simply don't play at a wedding. It was terrible.

Mac, why no "Shout"? I can see no to the other ones, but "Shout" is still pretty damn fun, especially when everyone is pretty well shot.

She didn't want it. Idk why, but I didn't question it.

We did a few of the staples... Electric Slide, Shout, YMCA etc, but outside of that it was a good mix of stuff everyone liked to dance to. I also bro danced to Justin Beiber with my best man hahaha. Thankfully there is no video of that(at least I don't think).

Our DJ implied we should do something funny at the garter removal. He said someone pulled a rubber chicken out one time.

Ours was pretty standard, James Bond theme, etc. Pretty traditional. I honestly loved our DJ and Photographer and would use both if I was doing it all over again. (Granted, I'm glad I'll never get married again, that stuff was exhausting to plan.)

Pull out a baby. That'll make an impression on your guests.

Why can't you just sit down with your girl and make up a list of songs to play. It's your wedding and you're going to listen to it. No fricken way in hell I'd let some a-hole I don't know play songs HE likes. Screw that. F that. I'd rather do it my way and have a funny buddy play the stuff and talk to the mic.

ps - I have very little respect for the DJ profession. What do they think, they're experts on music? And it takes a real talent to press a damn button. Most DJs I ever had the displeasure of dealing with weren't cool or funny or talented. I hate DJs and all the crap music they usually play. Hey, but I'm a metalhead, so I hate that kind of music, maybe that's why. I'd hire a cool as dung Reggae or Ska band instead.

I hate the music at weddings too. I know a wedding DJ. I partially agree with him in that you have to play the same crap that people expect to hear to keep people happy, dancing and mingling. If you go in playing Opeth, Meshuggah, Devil Driver (are you that kind of metal head?), etc. then no one will enjoy themselves. Your parents and grandparents almost expect to hear Old Time Rock 'n Roll. The thought of it makes me cringe.

However, see my previous post on me having a bluegrass band at my wedding and nothing else (confirmed with the fiance-to-be last night). I don't want any of that standard wedding crap at my wedding where we have a choice. I feel the music is one area we have a choice.

The way I would think is that it is MY wedding. I don't even want a big wedding. And I don't need to entertain some 70 year old aunt I haven't seen in 5 years. It'll be my wedding, my music, my rules. Now, I won't go playing death metal, but something fun and lively and something I like.... like bluegrass which I think is awesome and would certainly make people get up and dance. I would not agree to suffer for several hours being forced to listen to crappy overplayed old songs they typically play at weddings.

down to the nitty gritty. 12 days. Caterer is trying to overcharge us. Im begging for an invoice, they want to keep changing prices. I knew this was going to be a hassle. I was told $34.95 pp. Now, it's dependent on meal choice, due to "tiered" pricing.

My brother is getting married in July. No DJ; no dancing. The only music will be light background music.

Just had our first thing purchased for us on our registry... it's exciting, but at the same time it's a vase and a candle holder that my fiancee registered for.
