For once I agree with Kingerski. Don't sell low on Reilly Smith, wait until the draft.

Same. He can either be dealt in the summer or at the deadline next year. Same with Eller. No sense giving them away just because. If (and I'm saying this with hope and not much else) a new coaching regime comes in maybe Smith (and Graves, for that matter) go back to their norms and are more easily dealt, and for a better return. I'd still try to get something for Ned because he's priced himself out of town so might as well get something.

Pens aren't allowed to retain on Smith to trade him back to Vegas...
Kings, Rangers, Vancouver all want a top 6 forward. Would think Smith would be in play if they could work the cap out.

Ottawa claims claim Boris Katchouk on waivers. They now have a Katchouk and a Tkachuk.

Re: 2024 NHL Trade Deadline Discussion
Wonder if the NHL will explore using LTIR for cap circumventing and make it so a player must come off when eligible after the trade deadline or its extended for the player to not be eligible to return for whatever the minimum is. This would include all players on LTIR that have been eligible to return prior to the trade deadline but have not yet done it. If they aren’t ready to play but you don’t want to lose the player for the full LTIR time if the extensions go into the playoffs they can do regular IR but then need to get cap compliant.
Teams would need to either be very careful to when the put players on to get the timing right but today there will be between 15-20 games left for all teams and the season isn’t over for over another month so if someone is on now they will all be eligible to return in 10 games and 24 days. That means everyone needs to be off before the playoffs start and many will need to end up being out another 10 games/24 days which will extend into the first round.
It’s not a lot but it would keep teams from being a ton of players back for the playoffs where they would had been grossly over the cap if not for LTIR.

Can there be a middle man or no? And does it matter when we acquired Smith in the summer?KG wrote: Fri Mar 08, 2024 2:09 pmPens aren't allowed to retain on Smith to trade him back to Vegas...

I believe they can use a 3rd team as a broker to retain. Pens themselves can't retain for 365 days.DelPen wrote: Fri Mar 08, 2024 2:13 pmCan there be a middle man or no? @TheFourthPeriod
As I mentioned a few moments ago on
@NHLNetwork
, sounds like the Red Wings have been searching for a veteran forward to add to their roster. We'll see if they can pull it off over the next 43mins, but they're looking.
Should be another team interested in Smith.

Re: 2024 NHL Trade Deadline Discussion
Ok, so if we do that than we probably get nothing in return and it’s a straight cap dump and the team brokering probably another 50% would get something from Vegas. Probably not worth it now.KG wrote: Fri Mar 08, 2024 2:18 pmI believe they can use a 3rd team as a broker to retain. Why would he nix a move to LA? Sounds more like an Edmonton kind of nix.
Does Jarry have any trade restrictions?

There's no way this is all we do today, right?
Right???
Unless the plan really truly is to tank hard for the rest of the year and secure a top-10 pick, I don't understand the actual actions being totally incongruent with what was said by GMKD at his presser.

Its a lot easier to tank the rest of the season if you remove guys like Rakell, Smith, EK, etc.Waffles wrote: Fri Mar 08, 2024 2:31 pmThere's no way this is all we do today, right?

Have to have a willing partner, can't just make trades because you want to. And this team is more than capable of tanking just how they are now.Waffles wrote: Fri Mar 08, 2024 2:31 pmThere's no way this is all we do today, right?

That's what I was thinking. They're tanking just fine without having a total sell-off.DeHaven162 wrote: Fri Mar 08, 2024 2:34 pmHave to have a willing partner, can't just make trades because you want to.
