With Jagrs personality I think this is whats going on in Jagrs mind with regard to potentially joining the Penguins:

the organisation are still pissed about the way things ended in 2001. Jagr is also a proud man and would not want to risk embarrassing himself by offering his service to the Penguins only to be denied!

2. Jagr obviously feels awkward about the way things ended, and does not enjoy speaking about (with exception during the Rangers-Penguins series in 2007-2009) This alone is one reason Jagr is not sold on going back to Pittsburgh - because he knows he must face the media hord pressing him about it over and over again.

3.
Jagr probably knows he has to win back the fans as well, and thats certainly not a positive thing when he picks club.

Summary: If Mario Lemieux does not contact Jagr - there is no chance at alla there will be any contact between the Penguins and Jagr!

Do I blame Jagr for feeling this way? Well, I think its pretty understandable, so it would be only logical for him to feel this way.
Personally I think he´s changed alot. He´s alot more humble and easy going these days.

On the Jagr front: am told Detroit and Pittsburgh in the mix plus a few other teams but Habs according to source ``not so much anymore.''

I totally agree with you that Jagr has "matured" or changed for the better :)

What does that have to do with my message btw?

Jagr could still feel the way I described, and that would just be human, not anything necessary bad at all.

Would we have to wait until July 1st to sign Jagr?

I don't understand the correlation of Jagr maturing / "being a better person" and if he will go to highest bidder or not... If the man went for the job with most amount of $, how could anyone fault him?

I don't think Jagr goes for the most amount of money. If he was gonna do that, I would think he would stay in Russia. He is gonna come to the NHL and go to the team he feels is the one he thinks can win the Cup, and IMO that is either Detroit or Pittsburgh.

I would love for Jagr to retire as a Penguin. I also would not be worried about his age. With his natural talent - which I always considered just a step below Mario - I'm sure he can still play. If Shero's looking to add a vet, I don't think he can find a better one than Jagr.

Maybe he could ask Marian Hossa who is more likely to win the cup?

I believe he left the KHL because of something involving the schedule (I could be wrong). I believe it will be a variety of factors, but $ will be a very important factor (like it is for ANY player). On top of going for a chance to win the cup, I think it is important for Jagr to play with a center that will make his chance of individual success greater, something that both Det / Pens offer

DB has said TK will probably play top 6 minutes if he comes back / they will go back to staal as third...

Could you imagine this lineup

Kunitz / Neal - Sid - TK / Jagr
Kunitz / Neal - Malkin - TK / Jagr
Cooke - Staal - Letestu / Jeffrey / Duper
? - Adams - Letestu / Jeffrey / Duper

Letang - Orpik
Michalek -Martin
Niskanen (sp?)- Lovejoy / Engs

Fleury
Johnson

I'm sorry, but I view that as SCF favorites

With the new CBA not being resigned past next season yet, teams will be tentative to make long term signings. Pens could go after someone else, Brooks Laich, Ville Leino, Jussi Jokinen, and the other names that are being talked about, but the danger is that they will all want multi year deals. The good thing with signing Jagr is that he could probably be signed for a one year deal. He may not be cheap to get, but he will probably sign a one year deal, its probably something he would want as well. Thats the plus side of a potential deal for Jagr in my opinion.

It is looking like Jags does want a 1 year deal. He sees the risk of coming back to the NHL / if it doesn't work he will just run back to the KHL, so that is definitely a plus
The agent said if Jagr does sign with an NHL club, it would be for only a one-year deal.

"I just want to make sure it's the right fit," Svoboda said. "He's played really well the last few years in Russia. I think he's got a lot left."

So Rossi's tweet on the subject is like the journalism equivalent of 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell':

Jagr is interested in coming back to the NHL. You'd have to be VERY naive to believe the Pens wouldn't at least TALK to him to see what it would take... now they might not be willing to offer anything close to what he wants, but I'm sure they will be in communication at least once before he signs somewhere.

Jagr is considered a regular UFA just like the rest. He can't sign with anyone until July 1.

Nope. He was free to sign anywhere upon the conclusion of the KHL season. Jagr just chose to wait until after the World Championships to pursue a new contract. In the simplest terms- he's already 'unrestricted'... players on an NHL contract that are potential UFA's become unrestricted on July 1.
