I'd be interested to hear what you have to say about it once you're finished...

the wife finally got me to read the hunger games. i'm almost done with the 2nd book. it's a quick, fun read since you don't exactly have to go into deep thought about the themes of the books. she kind of hits you over the head with them.

Hunger Games does have an intriguing cover, I can see myself in 10 years or so checking that out of the library and reading it based solely on the cover.

Last few good books I've read:
The Pillars of the Earth - Ken Follett (983 pages about building a cathedral - better than it sounds :lol: )
Matterhorn: A Novel of the Vietnam War - Karl Marlantes

Currently reading:
The Hangman's Daughter - Oliver Pötzsch

Admin - Check out World Without End, the sequel to Pillars of the Earth.

I'm re-reading Unbroken. I'm not sure it qualifies as re-reading, as I listened to the audiobook the first time. Edward Hermann FTW.

I read The Pillars of the Earth several years ago. My dad handed it to me, and I was like....WTF? But it was a *really* good book. :thumb:

Also read Hangman's Daughter---not a fan. :thumbdown:

Just put World Without End on hold at the library.

Unbroken is a great read. Zamperini FTW :P

What didn't you like about it? (No spoilers, please, I'm only 3/4ths done.)

Read some kids' books recently, too. The Alchemyst - The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel Series, Book 1 was decent. My daughter had me read Artemis Fowl but I didn't like it.

My mom just bought 15 books off amazon. My g/f and I borrowed these two and are going to read them together. I was always interested in finding out more about this subject.

Anyone who's into Chandler/Hammett style crime fiction ought to read Richard Stark's Parker novels. Awesome writing, precise, economical, and gripping. Highly recommended.

I've read Rape of Nanking, an excellent read into a largely unknown tragedy of epic proportions. Iris Chang's mother wrote a biography of her daughter, who committed suicide several years after writing the book. It has been suggested that Chang's suicide stemmed from the research uncovered during writing and researching Rape of Nanking.

There is also a decent Chinese language film about Nanking: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1124052/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Spoiler:
It was so bad that a Nazi party member complained to German officials about what the Japanese were doing. :shock:

I picked this back up and I'm about 65% into it now. This is a top 5 book of all time, absolutely amazing.

About to finish The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins.

Either Sherlock Holmes or Barry Lyndon on deck. I'm loving the fact that being able to take the trolley into work gives me an additional hour per day of solid reading time. That time I used to spend getting agitated by all the idiots on the fan and the traffic lights.

I loved this book. There's another book by Follett I like, about these kids that find an old WWII bomber (or something like that). He loves his epic, centuries-long tales :D

It's free for the Kindle if anyone is interested. I might give it a shot.

Ah, it's a Project Gutenberg book: http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/583" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It seems like all pre-20th century literature is free for the Kindle. Maybe I should get one. But I can't help it, I like to turn pages.

I was the same way but after having a Kindle for two months I prefer it to paper. Every book is the same size now (thin and light). :thumb:

They both have their advantages, but man, nothing like that smell when you first open up a book.

Spoiler:
I'm definitely into it. I'm at the point where Hartright is trying to figuring out the Count's past. All the characters are awesome except Laura who is so incredibly helpless all the time. I feel like Percival basically being a con artist is a little bit of a let down, I was thinking something like he murdered Laura's parents or his parents or something like that being his secret

I remember you posting this earlier. Good to hear, I have it on deck ready to go, but I keep getting caught up with all these books that are part of a trilogy or more, I need to get away from those...

I'm a library-book guy and got fed up with the disgusting pages in our library. The digital copies from the library are clean! :fist:

Added to my Goodreads "to read" list. Does anyone else use Goodreads? My wife gave me a notebook to keep track of books I'm reading, but this has largely taken its place. It even has an app with a barcode scanner to add books to your reading list. Pretty cool.
