Jim Gordon for all his years in police work couldn't crack this case. If he couldn't figure out the clue mentioning the League of Shadows he feared this would be the last day for Gotham. He prayed something would give, he'd even take the murders restarting. He had to put his faith in the people of Gotham they've come back from worse than this.
