Nuts have a lot of calories too...but those calories work better FOR you in your body. This is my whole point.

I eat oatmeal every morning and feel great doing it, and the soluble fiber is great for your heart. All the "gluten is EVIL" stuff gets tiresome after a while.

A client I work for laughs at this recent "OMG AM I CELIAC" movement because as a "healthy" products store, they make ridiculous amounts of money by scaring those people into submission.shafnutz05 wrote:I eat oatmeal every morning and feel great doing it, and the soluble fiber is great for your heart. I know one person that has been diagnosed with Celiac disease, and for her it's not pleasant at all.

I think the main point we can all benefit from in PFIDC's posts is to eat a more balanced diet on the macronutrient level. Pay attention to what percentage of our calories come from protein/fat/carbs. Most people simply eat way more carbs than they should be and the results are less favorable for body composition and various other physiological processes.

Is celiac disease where you HAVE to go on a gluten free diet? I have a friend that is on that diet becaues she has to be. Not sure if thats what she has though. If she has any gluten she'll be sick for a couple days. Lost a ton of weight. Looks pretty hot tho. And I constantely get to use the joke when shes eating "how can you eat that crap? You must be a gluten for punishment. Some reason she's never amused.Malkamaniac wrote:A client I work for laughs at this recent "OMG AM I CELIAC" movement because as a "healthy" products store, they make ridiculous amounts of money by scaring those people into submission.shafnutz05 wrote:I eat oatmeal every morning and feel great doing it, and the soluble fiber is great for your heart. Yes, my friend is Celiac and can't have ANY Gluten or it makes her deathly ill. I wouldn't wish that on anyone to be honest.
The whole self diagnosed celiac thing is about as big as the self diagnosed ADD routine.

Yeah that and any food allergies would be horrible. I'd be in constant panic that whatever im eating secretly has whatever im allergic too in it, no matter how ridiculous.

The only saving grace for her is that restaurants are now more receptive to the "gluten free" crowd and it works for her because when nobody cared about this, she couldn't really eat out anywhere.DudeMan2766 wrote:Yeah that and any food allergies would be horrible. Re: Gym/Exercise Thread
As I said, I don't have celiac and I don't have a sensitivity to gluten on an allergen scale. Gluten is a protein found in grains that don't need other animals to reproduce. Gluten is a part of their self defense and attacks the organism that eats it. 99.5% of the grain eating world doesn't consume enough gluten in their diet to have any noticeable or daily life threatening reactions. The other .5% are allergic.
Gluten free is becoming a very big business and even my nutritionist warns me to stay away from most foods marked as "gluten free" because they still have tons of sugar and other anti-nutrients.
I mostly eat grass fed and free range organic meats, wild caught fish, and organic veggies including sweet potatoes, nuts, and seeds. I try not to eat any fruits after noon to keep my insulin levels down. I take probiotics and supplements including magnesium, calcium, D3, and a men's daily (all chelated of course). I have seen incredible results. I've lost almost 70lbs since I started.

Yes, but most people actually eat way more animal protein than they need and as a result their body becomes acidic.steelhammer wrote:I think the main point we can all benefit from in PFIDC's posts is to eat a more balanced diet on the macronutrient level. I feel no guilt when I eat carbs because I only eat Complex Alkaline Carbs.

Re: Gym/Exercise Thread
That's a fair point, but I was trying to comment on the subject from a macroscopic (no pun intended) perspective. I also don't think it's an issue of something specific that you ate, but rather WHAT ELSE did you eat that day. Have a big bowl of oatmeal with toast for breakfast? Fine, but probably not the best day to eat rice for lunch & pasta for dinner as well. The antithesis to that doesn't have to be a bottomless meat freezer either. I consume zero animal protein but still manage a diet close to 30/35/35 (protein/fat/carb).Godric wrote:Yes, but most people actually eat way more animal protein than they need and as a result their body becomes acidic.steelhammer wrote:I think the main point we can all benefit from in PFIDC's posts is to eat a more balanced diet on the macronutrient level. once you hit the water, I don't think it's gonna matter.DudeMan2766 wrote:Running the Mud on the Mountain on the 3rd. So what would one recommend to wear as it will be chillier and the water will most likely be freezing
If you wear something light, you might dry quicker but you're more than likely gonna freeze. If you wear something thicker, you might stay warmer for longer but once you hit that lake, the water is gonna stay with you for probably the rest of the race.

Re: Gym/Exercise Thread
When we did Tough Mudder in April is was freezing gosh darned cold. I wore shorts and an under armour long sleeve shirt and a similar style t-shirt over top of that.
I'm running this race as well, and that's what I plan to wear. I might ditch the long sleeved shirt though. You're going to want that wicking style fabric regardless. But I suspect after the first 1/4 mile, once you've run up Stowe (assuming the course is the same), that you'll be plenty warm and possibly even looking foward to the water obstacles! I wouldn't recommend any type of pants. My boss actually found someone on the course with scissors and cut his sweat pants into shorts.

Sounds good. Yeah that makes sense that you problably would up a sweat, and November 3rd may not be that cold, but im sure the water is still freezing. Thanks. Gotta check with my friend if the people we're running with that he knows are staying. I'd love to. We got our time switched so a big group of us is running together.

when kenny the kangaroo adopted beardog, the beardog weighed 95 lbs. it was just assumed she was naturally big boned, and her weight stayed stable around that 95 lbs for about a year and a half. then we took the beardog to a new vet, and the vet said more or less that the beardog was way too fat and needed to lose some weight. eventually she was tested and it was learned that the beardog had hypothyroidism and went on some medication. she lost about 20 lbs in about 6-12 months. kenny the kangaroo is going to spread the word about hypothyroidism. its going to be the new celiacs, or the new new ADD.

Yeah, I'm hoping for some warmth, because no matter how you dress, if it's cold and you're jumping in that water it's going to suck. Can't freakin' wait!DudeMan2766 wrote:Sounds good.
