You are correct, however there is a little more to the reports than simply what you wrote.IanMoran wrote:I don't understand how some of these reporters are coming to their conclusions
I'm seeing this in almost all of these reports / articles
Title / Thesis of Story: "Jagr wants to play in Pittsburgh" / "Penguins front-runners in Jagr chase"
Content of article: Agent says Jagr has talked to Pens and 3 other teams
I believe the content, I just don't get the conclusion (which is what seems to be getting people riled up)

If that is true, then Jagr won't be here.tfrizz wrote:" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Pierre LeBrun wrote:Am told Pittsburgh is interested in Jagr only if it's a very low price... My guess that means $1 million or less...
This will be interesting.
My guess where Jagr will end up:
Detroit: 60%
Pens: 35%
Other: 5%

Re: Penguins want Jagr back?!
That's probably it. Who's to say the Pens are even interested? As I type this, I read a tweet from LeBrun that says the Pens are only interested if it's a "very low price." I know it would be cool and all for Jagr to come back, but let's be realistic here. He's going to turn 40 this season. He was a 70 point player when he left the NHL and that was several years ago. He's not a superstar anymore and may not even be a particularly good player. Realistically, he'd probably be a ~50 point player and probably isn't a good fit for the Pens' style of play. I see it going down like Kovalev's return did. Cool at first due to nostalgia, he shows a little flash of having something left early on, but as time goes on it becomes clear that it wasn't really a good fit, which many people knew from the start. Why do I feel that this report is just an agent's job of driving up the price it's going to be for the Red Wings to sign him?
I'm not the biggest fan of Tyler Kennedy, but he probably fits the team a lot better than Jagr would now.
I wouldn't get swept up in this frenzy. It's only going to lead to disappointment, whether that's because he doesn't come here (most likely) or because he just isn't that good anymore.

After living in Russia, I'm sure Detroit would seem safe and clean in comparison.

Jagr is most certainly not taking sub 1 million to play anywhere. Even if he said he's do it awhile back. I just don't see that as plausible.

Jagr playing for 1 million would be hilarious, that would only be because of Mario Lemieux if it would happen!

Pay Jagr 1 million to play and 1 million to coach the PP.

I think he would do it to play with the Pens (for Mario), but then the question becomes "how long until the NHL/NHLPA reject the contract?"Malkamaniac wrote:Jagr is most certainly not taking sub 1 million to play anywhere. Even if he said he's do it awhile back. I just don't see that as plausible.

Re: Penguins want Jagr back?!
It could be that Pens are feeding LeBrun that $1 million figure to keep Jagr's price down, just as Jagr's agent is talking up various teams' interest in his client just to get his price up.

Now lets just hope that Jagr's desire to repair his legacy and relationship with Pittsburgh exceeds his desire for money and the Pens can get him at a bargain price.tfrizz wrote:" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Pierre LeBrun wrote:Am told Pittsburgh is interested in Jagr only if it's a very low price... Re: Penguins want Jagr back?!
Agree. The Pens aren't going to deviate from their plan they had before Jagr contacting them. If they can get him at a bargain price, I think he is a nice add for a year. As long as they don't lose any of their long term players they had planned to sign.Henry Hank wrote:That's probably it. Who's to say the Pens are even interested? I'm getting somewhat excited, but I know the reality is that he will more than likely end up somewhere else, as he will not be a key piece to the Pens, especially if Sid and geno are healthy.
Honestly though, I think he is a better player than Kovy, and he won't disappear like he did. I was ok with Kovy coming back only because it was for a 7th rounder, and Sid and Geno were lost for the year. And honestly, I think that is the only reason why RS made the move.
I'm realistic though that Jagr is not the Jagr we remember. I do think he'd be a good 60-70 pt player, which is better than what we have as a winger. And which is why I wouldn't mind seeing him here (besides nostalgic reasons). But again, only if it does not hurt the Pens and RSs long term vision.

Well as long as it's above vet minimum, they can't do anything about that contract.tfrizz wrote:I think he would do it to play with the Pens (for Mario), but then the question becomes "how long until the NHL/NHLPA reject the contract?"Malkamaniac wrote:Jagr is most certainly not taking sub 1 million to play anywhere. Re: Penguins want Jagr back?!
Jagr > Kovalev even at this stage of their careers. I'm not saying that Jagr would light it up night in and night out, but looking at the free agent pool we could do far worse for 2million or less for one season. (presuming he would take 2 mil or less)

Re: Penguins want Jagr back?!
Jagr would address the Pen's biggest weakness: the power play.
Strip away all the storylines and nostalgia. As a hockey move, bringing JJ on board to improve the PP makes sense. Even for $3 million. Blysma can manage his minutes to @ 15. Guys like Tangradi and Jeffrey can get cups of coffee on the top lines rotating with Jagr. He'd also make a great power forward mentor for Neal.

Re: Penguins want Jagr back?!
As my brother pointed out, Jagr has an entire country to adore him.
He doesn't need to take a piddling NHL salary, so Penguins fans can like him again.
My honest opinion:
I'm not sure Penguins fans deserve him (even a the league minimum) after all of that booing.

60 points is more than any other winger on the team. He is easily worth $2mil for 1 season. Oh no we can't resign Talbot. How will we make up for those 10 points?

Agreed. I think he'd come for $2MM, but I don't know if that is in the pens plans.Malkamaniac wrote:Jagr is most certainly not taking sub 1 million to play anywhere. Even if he said he's do it awhile back. I just don't see that as plausible.

The Pens would be moronic to not sign Jagr at 2 million with this year's free agency crapfest.

Depends what impact it has on their other free agents and long term vision.Kerry Fraser wrote:The Pens would be moronic to not sign Jagr at 2 million with this year's free agency crapfest.
Signing Jagr for $2MM has other implications.
