Re: Penguins want Jagr back?!
This is no different than when Mario went to Kansas City on an arena tour during negotiations and the cameras were all following him around. It was posturing to put someone in a position to give him what he/the city needed most.
Think about big free agent signings that happen ever year. You don't see agents parading around doing constant media interviews. This is a PR move.
Jagr made 7 Million last year. Tax free. I'll gladly eat crow on this, but I don't see this guy returning to Pittsburgh for 2 Million, or to Detroit for 3, or anywhere in the NHL for that matter.
He's posturing, getting North American media involved in stories about his return, that way Omsk ups that price tag to a cool 9 Million for one year, he gets his final paycheck and rides off into the sunset with it.

If signing Jagr at 2 million means that Dupuis won't come back because his feelings are hurt, I can handle it.newarenanow wrote:Depends what impact it has on their other free agents and long term vision.Kerry Fraser wrote:The Pens would be moronic to not sign Jagr at 2 million with this year's free agency crapfest.
Signing Jagr for $2MM has other implications.

Re: Penguins want Jagr back?!
Other than a high price tag, the only reason Jagr wouldn't fit into Shero's plans is if RS has identified another free agent RW who can put the puck in the net. But I just don't see any UFA's out there who'd make a better option than #68.

Re: Penguins want Jagr back?!
What other implications? We know who our free agents are this year...they are pretty much grinders. If we sign Jagr for only 1 year for 2 mil I do not see how that majorly impacts us beyond this year pretty much. Unless you think the Pens REALLY want to sign TK to a longer term deal - that is the only major implication I seenewarenanow wrote:Depends what impact it has on their other free agents and long term vision.Kerry Fraser wrote:The Pens would be moronic to not sign Jagr at 2 million with this year's free agency crapfest.

Re: Penguins want Jagr back?!
I agree. With keeping Jagr's minutes down, and giving him an occasional night off on back-t-backs, I think Jagr could still be a very effective NHL forward, much better than Kovalev at this point.pcm wrote:Jagr would address the Pen's biggest weakness: the power play.
Strip away all the storylines and nostalgia. As a hockey move, bringing JJ on board to improve the PP makes sense. Even for $3 million. Blysma can manage his minutes to @ 15. Guys like Tangradi and Jeffrey can get cups of coffee on the top lines rotating with Jagr. He'd also make a great power forward mentor for Neal.

Please don't try to make Jagr out to somehow be the victim. He brought all of that nonsense on himself. There is a laundry list of issues he had here in Pittsburgh and to somehow suggest that we don't deserve him is laughable.columbia wrote:

Re: Penguins want Jagr back?!
Jagr is definitely worth at least $2M. Shero gave Guerin $2M to come back the extra year and Jagr has more upside than Billy G.

Re: Penguins want Jagr back?!
I struggle to believe that at that price. Heck, Rupp is being talked about at around $1M (puke). Tangradi, jeffery, johnson, tk spot in the top six us the only thing jagr could take away and he's.a clear, clear upgrade over all oh them, so do it.newarenanow wrote:Depends what impact it has on their other free agents and long term vision.Kerry Fraser wrote:The Pens would be moronic to not sign Jagr at 2 million with this year's free agency crapfest.

I agree that the loose-lipped agent is very fishy. But I don't think Omsk is an option for him. I read somewhere that they either can't afford him anymore or he burned some bridges there or something like that.Jesse wrote:This is no different than when Mario went to Kansas City on an arena tour during negotiations and the cameras were all following him around. Re: Penguins want Jagr back?!
If he wants to come back to the NHL, Detroit is a better option for him anyway. They're likely to pay him more, I think they will feel a little more urgent to make a move like that with them losing Rafalski and seeing their core aging, they have more Europeans, they are more willing to cater to older players. Jagr comes here and isn't working, you're going to see some fourth line demotions or even scratches, and then there will be problems.
I agree with Jesse that more than anything this could just be posturing to get himself a bigger pay in Russia. Jagr's not going to come here for peanuts.

Re: Penguins want Jagr back?!
I don't get the big deal with the boo'ing. He was on the visiting team. If Rick Nash or a Sedin, or any other superstar type player scores or does well against the pens, we would boo. I understand, we wouldn't boo someone like Francis maybe, but every time Jagr is brought up everyone including the media is all like "OMG they Boo'ed JAGR." It just is not that big of a deal. It's sports. People boo the foul ball boy if he misses an easy grounder, boo Iceburgh if he falls on the ice...whatever. Haha!pens2005 wrote:Please don't try to make Jagr out to somehow be the victim. He brought all of that nonsense on himself. Thank you, columbia. If he doesn't return, I am definitely blaming it on the booing fans. It takes a lot to overcome booing Jagr for me to like an individual. Chances are good that if you booed Jagr, I dont like you.

@Real_ESPNLeBrun
Wings have offered more money than Penguins at this point. That can change in one phone call from Mario. But that's where it stands now.

Re: Penguins want Jagr back?!
I remember reading that Omsk was definitely out of the picture, so St. Petersburg was the only real option for him in the KHL, and then they pulled out also. I think Svoboda is definitely posturing to get his price tag up, but it's posturing for a bigger pay among NHL teams only.

He'll make more money in a contract in Detroit...but the peanut butter sales in Pittsburgh could put them over the top.
