Re: Penguins want Jagr back?!
How does Robert Lang know Mario Lemieux is trying to contact Jagr?
Does this mean Lemieux has called Robert Lang in an effort to get in contact with Jagr?
But why would Lemieux have to call Robert Lang to get in contact with Jagr?
Would not Svoboda provide that number to the Penguins/Lemiuex?
Or are Lemieux acting on his own without Sheros knowledge and possible want to speak to Jagr himself before talking with
Shero etc?

What I love is that LeBrun admits that it's merely speculation on his part, and people here run with it like you just posted a .wav file of the phone conversation between Shero and Jagr's agent.columbia wrote:Since no one has any idea if RS made an offer - much less one for $1M - there seems to be a lot of hand wringing over nothing.
Hell, he might not even make an offer.

I was referring to your comment about the tournament having sparse talent in it.Jesse wrote:Understood, but would you base the signing of a Euro free-agent based on their performance in the tournament?Bob McKenzie wrote:I wouldn't call it a sparse talented tournament when several NHLers play in it. That's quite a stretch. Canada and Russia's team clearly had more talent than most NHL teams.Jesse wrote:
I'm scratching my head over this one. The worlds are a sparse talent tournament that relatively no one cares about. Not sure that performance is a solid indication that he can still play.
Having the likes of Nash, Spezza, Tavares, Zajac, Neal, Stewart, Kane, Eberle, Ladd, Burns, and Duchene on Team Canada doesn't sound like Jagr was playing the Beijing Sea Dogs.

These contradicting Jagr rumors are more complicated than the plot to Inception.

I'd be willing to bet two things. (1) Jagr wears the winged wheel in 11-12 and (2) most people on here will be glad about that come March.

I agree, the whole Lang angle is bizarre and lessens the credibility of Svoboda's comments.Lesky wrote:How does Robert Lang know Mario Lemieux is trying to contact Jagr?

Mario does not have JJ on his cell phone, nor Svoboda. But he does have Robert Lang. How is that hard to understand?llipgh2 wrote:I agree, the whole Lang angle is bizarre and lessens the credibility of Svoboda's comments.Lesky wrote:How does Robert Lang know Mario Lemieux is trying to contact Jagr?

i can't imagine shero is happy that this is getting treated like a public auction. these leaks about pitt and det and who is offering what - they probably marked the end of the pens' involvement in this.

Re: Penguins want Jagr back?!
I just think $1 Mil. is such a low offer for him, there's no sense in being "interested" in the first place. That would be like me being interested in buying a new Mustang, but walking onto a lot with a maximum offer of $12,000.sil wrote:I don't get this. You can interested in a guy, but also wary of throwing away 2M+ cap space at the same time. It's not like we'd be missing the boat on a guy who's going into his best years.66 Fighters of Foo wrote:Agreed. If the Penguins say they're interested, then go on to offer him a max of $ 1 Million, that's worse than just saying "not interested" from the start. My guess is $2 Million is the lowest you can realistically offer without insulting him.
Even at this stage of his career, I think $2 Mil. is a reasonable amount to expect to pay him, even with the "hometown discount". If the Penguins cap situation is such that they really can't pay him more than $1 Mil, they shouldn't be in the mix at all. Unless, of course, Jags indicated that he'd be willing to go that low to be a Penguin one last time. I'd imagine if that was his mindset, he wouldn't be in contact with other teams at all.
Just my opinion.

What if Jagr rejects the Red Wings offer and signs with the Pens for a "better' shot at winning the Stanley Cup and the Pens lose in the finals to the Red Wings.
I know this type of scenario happened 2 seasons ago but I can't remember the player or the teams involved.

Re: Penguins want Jagr back?!
I don't understand why the Pens would lowball Jagr.
This is a MUST sign.
A Must.
*The Pens need a top 6 winger, preferably somebody with size, who is a natural scorer, and can help on the PP
**They need somebody not only to take advantage of Sid and Malkin BUT to be insurance in case one or both gets hurt, because as we saw, Sid and Malkin are the only real offensive threats, the rest of the forwards are grinders who "chip" in sporadically
***The Pens sellout streak is in jeopardy, at least I assume, this will keep it going
****THERE IS NO OTHER PLAYER OUT THERE AS GOOD AS JAGR.
If you sign Jagr, you get a big boost to the PP, our D is all set, we do not and will not get a PP QB, and the other wingers out there are *cough* Ryder....Jagr ain't a star, but he is a 20 goal 30 assist man, who can create his own offense, nobody else, nobody else available, can
Don't be a fool Shero/Pens, WE NEED more offense and a 20 goal Jagr far beats anybody else
