I view this as very good news. Tretiak has spent much time in North America and working with the NHL. My guess is this makes it much easier for the NHL to reach a transfer agreement with the Russians, and thus it's much more likely that Malkin will be a Penguin in the Fall.

This is excellent news. I believe everybody's favorite whipping boy, Gonchar, was quoted that if Tretiak was elected, Malkin would be here next season. Because not long after Tretiak was elected, an agreement between NHL and Russia would be reached.
