way if he wants to come to the NHL next season. His source is probably Dave King. He also said the club plans on making a substantial offer to Malkin, more than the Pens could offer.

JD also had some interesting comments on the Hotstove. He claimed NHL clubs were making "secret" transfer payments to Russian clubs in the past. He also keeps inferring the Pens could lose Malkin's rights based on the current CBA. I thought they had until 6/30/08 to sign him. His current Russian deal expires after the 07 season.

I've heard the NHL will not allow Malkin and other unsigned Russian draft picks from 2004 and 2005 to re-enter the draft until the league has a transfer agreement with Russia for two years.

Penguins are very lucky the head coach for Metallurg is Dave King. He's been trying to tell their owners, it would be more important for the team and country to have a player of its own to become the best player in the world against the best in the world.

According to this months Red Line Report--all euro players must be signed within two years of their original draft or they go back into the hopper for reentry draft. This in accordance with the new CBA. However, as Russia did not agree to transfer rights the NHL and players union has agreed that Russian players must be signed within 3 years of their original draft. This is what they are being told by team officials around the league. Red Line Report states that they have tried to confirm this with the NHL office who has no comment.

So, who know what will happen with Malkin.

That statement is no big deal unless Malkin doesnt want to play for the Pensguins. Lets hope Gonchar doesnt tell him that he will get booed all the time during the olympic break
