Looking for a watch recommendation

Post by Admin »

Not looking to spend more than $300 for a new watch.

I think this is the front-runner so far:

Retail is close ($350-ish) but that's why I'm looking for other ideas.

I only wear Timex watches. I have a collection of both new and vintage models. They have quite a few nice chronograph models, if that's what you’re only interested in.

Unlike mechanical movements, reliable, durable quartz movements can be made for very little money. The ETA movement in that Wenger watch is probably way less than $50 in volume. Great Citizen/Miyota movements can be had for 10 bucks. Most of the price of a quartz watch is the name on the dial.

I have a few Skagen Watches. They are nice, dressy, not bulky and are reasonable priced...

What about Citizen Eco Drive? It's definitely within your price range (e.g. http://www.jomashop.com/citizen-eco-dri ... 9059e.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ). They are solar-powered (the battery allegedly stores enough power for 180 days) - so you don't have to worry about battery replacement, ever.

(I myself have one of the Eco Drive Calibre watches - reasonably stylish, yet easily below $300.)

Plus, Nicole is unstoppable! :P " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
(so is Eli " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; )

That was the first thing I thought of. I also have a guess steel watch that is cool when I wear the silver/white gold look.

There is no way I am paying $450 for a watch with a leather band.

Something different. I own two plain Seiko's (dressy), a really old Swatch (plastic-y), and a Timex IronMan Datalink (digital-y). My iPhone handles alarms so I'm just looking for something different. Seems I'm intrigued by chronographs... and Tomas' wind-powered Eco-drive is interesting.

I'm not a metal wristband fan. Too much like jewelry.

I own both. Leather bands do have a good point, however; they are easy to replace. A lot of metal bands are made for the specifc model of watch. If the band breaks on you somehow, you're often SOL on getting an exact replacement.
