So we scratched Cairns...

...to let a soft, 6'5" guy that doesn't want to play for this team get in the lineup?
I don't get it.

today was so bad

I don't think it would have been much different with Cairns in there. Maybe it's only 6-1 instead of 7-1.

The team as a whole didn't shoot but 14 times, and allowed 51. THat's a recipe for disaster in today's league. We should be thankful it wasn't 14-1.

Cairns would not have made a difference. He was averaging 7:31 with the Pens. Even when he dresses he doesn't play much.

As far as Cross goes, I think the only reason the Pens took him was to even up the salary. Given that they know what they have in the other defense on the team, they might as well throw Cross out there to see what they've got in him.

Oh, I know he wouldn't have made a difference, but he wouldn't have let it get out of hand like that without heads rolling. That's just totally embarrassing to let that happen on national television. Why even show up?

Cairns really hasn't played that bad since he came here. Keep him in the lineup and scratch Melicar for a while.

Ciarns has actually played well. Not any worse than our other bums on the blueline, at least. Keep him in there to handle situations like this so your team isn't totally embarrassed.

No he wouldn't have. Even when he dresses for the Pens, he hardly plays. He averages 7:31 since he got here.

Besides, the Rangers weren't taking runs at anyone. If they would have started a bunch of fights for no reason other than they were mad about playing like crap, they'd have looked even worse. They'd have looked like a bad hockey team and a bunch of idiots like they did in Columbus.

You ask "Why even show up?" I say none of the Pens did.
