The Pens have had no $$$$ to compete in a league that was so radically imbalanced.
Hell they are still slated to lose money this year with a salary cap. UGH.
When CP did have the money to work with(albeit fake money) he did produce.
2 Stanley Cups, and deep into the playoffs virtually every year.
Just take a look at the players that have come and gone through Pittsburgh.
Whether via draft or trade, we have had some excellent talent on this team.
Yet people scream about scouting,,,well it is hard to let players maximze their potential with such limited ice time playing behind the superstar lineups we had for so many years.
Of course we couldnt keep them here once it became clear this team was so in debt, financially strapped, etc.
Another point a lot of people miss, having Lemieux the last few years has made it an even harder job. How many games will he play. How much impact will Lemieux have...all those things CP could not know heading into a season.
Most teams that have had the money couldnt stay on top like we did for so long...when CP was able to spend.
Bob Clarke has had Fort Knox to work with, and yet sniffed the Finals...ONCE, and got swept. Havent been back since. Even the mighty LOU in Jersey bombed this years free agent singings.
All things considered, I think you would be hard pressed to find a better GM.
Why CP should stay

I am in the camp that thinks we need a change. CP completely blew the offseason in making bad choices. Not a single person he brought in worked out. WHile I am not upset at all for tossing out the old trash we had I did not think they would be replaced by expensive trash.
CP said at the draft they would be a big player in the free agnet market and they were. But I know myself and a lot of other fans held him to that statement when we started to see guys like Foote, Kovy, and others we wanted to see as Pens get signed by others. Did he panic from fan pressure? Doubtful because he's never caved before.
The team CP created was the team he wanted to have on the ice. Considering how much of a dissapointment the team has been it's time for a fresh start.
