Versus the Brampton Battalion.
I've never watched him play before so I'm anxious to see his game. He is not the Staal that is reputed to be a better pro prospect than Eric. There are 4 Staal brothers and the youngest, 15 year old Jared is supposed to be the best of the brothers pre-JR.
Marc (NYR 1st round pick) was an absolute stud shutdown defenseman at the WJC.
Jordan Staal/Peterborough are on Sportsnet tonight at 7PM

It was a great game - Brampton 3-2 in a SO
Staal was very good. He looks incredibly tall on his skates. He is very patient with the puck and waits until the last possible second to move it. His playmaking instincts are very good for an 18 year old kid. He also does an excellent job on the PK. He is very rangy with good anticipation. He covers a ton of ice and helped kill off several 5 on 3s.
His acceleration and overall skating looked slow, but with a big guy sometimes it is hard to tell. He definitely looks like a great prospect. I don't think he approaches Kessel though.
Peterborough is the top team in the OHL. They definitely look like a Memorial Cup contender. WJC glory agitator Steve Downie plays for them. He just came off a 5 game suspension a few games ago. He didn't do much other than take a ridiculous running lunge at a defender in the crease while the goalie froze the puck. The Petes also had another agitator named Kaleta who is a Sabres draft pick. He hit anything that moved. Their goalie Shantz (2nd round pick of ?) gave up a couple of soft rebound goals. The Petes also have the Pens 7th round 2004 pick Morrison. He is kind of small. He has great speed and puckhandling ability. He circled back to rush the puck on the PP. He seemed to play C on the 3rd line and some W on Staal's line. He darted in and out of traffic. I don't think he will play in the NHL, but may be a decent scorer for Wheeling. He probably isn't strong or good enough to have an impact in the AHL. Mike Ryder's younger brother was the best player for the Petes IMO. He was a 3rd round pick for (?) last year.
The best player on the ice by a large margin was Brampton's Wojtek Wolski. He played 9 games for the Lanche this season. His skill level is off the charts. I think he grew up in Canada because I saw him interviewed and he didn't have an accent. He had a ridiculous off the charts Jussi Joikinen move in the SO, except he had a few more dekes before he pushed the puck in the net. Colorado will have an incredible 1-2 punch with WW & Spatos.
