If the King's can somehow shed his salary and get another working piece, they'll be back in the playoff hunt real quick. Let's hope that doesn't happen.

at 5+ mil a year, I can't see anyone claiming him, but stranger things have happened.

I would take him on the Pens in a heartbeat and it'd be kinda funny too, but $5.75 a year... wow. I'd gladly trade Sutter to make room.

The Kings would gladly trade Richards for Sutter.

No way I'd trade Sutter for Richards. Not unless you had a time machine and were able to get 2008 Mike Richards.

Re: Reports of Mike Richards on waivers..
He's a good player, just was miscast as a superstar, but I think that if he's not doing well this year, that setting just isn't working for him for some reason. At 29, he should still have several good years left.jwest21 wrote:No way I'd trade Sutter for Richards. Not unless you had a time machine and were able to get 2008 Mike Richards.
I like Sutter OK, but I have two problems with him. He's very weak and does not possess the puck well or fight on the boards - tall but skinny. And he's very inconsistent. He'll have 1 great game, then disappear for the next 5.
If Richards cost about 3 maybe 4 mil, I'd take him.

Re: Reports of Mike Richards on waivers..
Sutter hasn't disappeared for any appreciable stretch this year at all. He's played terrific defense throughout and is even pleasing the "score or GTFO" crowd to some degree...
And if you're worried about Sutter playing 1 great game and disappearing for 5...you wouldn't like Richards, who has disappeared for all six of these hypothetical games...
I think he could be a good third line center still, but he has worn down quite a bit...why give up a RHS center who has played extremely well for us, in exchange for a fading LHS center with a prohibitive contract...? No matter how it is sliced it doesn't make sense, he doesn't fill a need, he's not an upgrade, it costs us our only RHS center, and it puts our baitbag that much closer to the bandsaw...

Re: Reports of Mike Richards on waivers..
From what I have seen from Richards, he looks close to all used up. I don't think its a change of scenery he needs- I think he needs a new body. His current one is beat up

Did they re-up him? I just thought they chose not to buy him out. Philly was the team that signed him to the 12 year deal.

Re: Reports of Mike Richards on waivers..
I haven't watched LA enough to specifically pinpoint what's going on with Richards and you may know better, but at his peak he was so much better than Sutter. At 29, he can't be done yet. I know Sutter has some fans, but he's not a favorite of mine... let's just put it that way, though I will say he's got some talent and, imo, has looked best with skilled forwards on his wings.mikey287 wrote:Sutter hasn't disappeared for any appreciable stretch this year at all. At his peak he was much better than Sutter yes. He's not there any more, Sarcastic. He's just not there. I think a change of scenery would be great for him and he's not completely done...but he's running down quick...Sarcastic wrote:I haven't watched LA enough to specifically pinpoint what's going on with Richards and you may know better, but at his peak he was so much better than Sutter.
