Hawks not done. Still have payroll issues to deal with.
Frank Seravalli @frank_seravalli
According to @ByScottPowers, #Hawks will carry a significant $3.07 million salary cap overage into next season.
Panarin ($2.575M), Teravainen ($212.5K) & Rozsival ($200K) all hit bonuses. By my math, means #Hawks finished within $82,500 of $71.4M cap.

Baertschi is $1.85M per. Just didn't want people to think the got $3.8M per.ville5 wrote:Nucks resign Baertschi- 2years, $3.8 million.

Datsyuk makes it official:
http://www.freep.com/story/sports/nhl/r ... /86081818/
"The Wings had hoped Datsyuk would play out his contract, because it does not dissolve just because he leaves. Under the NHL's collective bargaining agreement, contracts signed after a player turns 35 cannot be scrapped - so the cap hit remains, though no team will have to pay the actual $5 million salary."
(The cap hit is $7.5 million.)

Should be interesting to see what Detroit will have to trade to a team to get that cap relief.Durbano wrote:Datsyuk makes it official:

Re: 2016-17 NHL UFA signings, trades, etc.
I have a stupid question. Detroit made a comment about potentially trading Datsyuk's contract to a team that needs to get to the salary floor. Kind of like Pronger. My question is, does the team that trades for that players salary actually have to pay it to the player or does it just count as a number against their Cap, but no actual money is paid to anyone, it is just a number? For example, they have their 22 players and are paying them 44mil. And the salary they took from the retired or heading home player simply makes their cap rise by "7 million" making them get to the cap floor?

It is a paper cap hit only.Skatingpen wrote:I have a stupid question. Detroit made a comment about potentially trading Datsyuk's contract to a team that needs to get to the salary floor. Trade Gibson? Keep both? Keeping both would bump MAF's value a bit.

Coyotes acquire 2016 fourth-round pick and 2017 third-round pick from Sharks for center Max Letunov and 2017 sixth-round pick.

I wonder if this kind of trade actually takes longer to work out than "blockbuster" type deals.Pruezy11881 wrote:Coyotes acquire 2016 fourth-round pick and 2017 third-round pick from Sharks for center Max Letunov and 2017 sixth-round pick.
"5th + 3rd for Letunov +7th"
"I want a 3rd and a 4th"
"4th + 3rd for Letunov +7th is too steep"
"Two 4ths?"
"How about 5th + 3rd for just Letunov?"
"No"

Apparently Buffalo wasted their 3rd round pick. According to Vesey's agent he's still going to free agency on August 15th.

the Sabres are obviously willing to gamble that between his buddy Eichel working on him and the money they could give him that Vesey will change his mind and sign. not sure why they think that though as it's pretty clear that Vesey wants to stay close to his mom.ville5 wrote:Apparently Buffalo wasted their 3rd round pick. Sutter favorite Dwight King to be traded at the draft? Peuliar move if so, 1 year, $1.9 million left on his deal.

Amazing that this is what a slightly above average defenseman who's not exceptional at any one thing goes for in both term and money.ville5 wrote:Yandle signs for 7 years with Florida, $6.35 million a year.
