World Cup of Hockey
Liking the tournament so far. Canada is a machine and Sid is carrying over his Stanley Cup game. USA is the joke pretty much anyone who watched the playoffs this year knew they would be while the North American team is using speed which is the way the game is going. Granted I guess if you're add the Americans from NA and get rid of the dead weight along with a healthy Kessel then USA might not suck out loud.

Murray looks pretty good through two periods, but I guess he hasn't been tested much.

I went to bed after the second period, but he did look good, and he looked good in the game at the CEC against the Czechs. I will look forward to NA vs. Canada, Russia and Sweden.Fast B wrote:Murray looks pretty good through two periods, but I guess he hasn't been tested much.

I was impressed with the love that Sid was getting from the Canadian media after game 1 in Toronto. It's almost like Bob Errey is writting the articles they've been so glowing.DelPen wrote:Liking the tournament so far. Canada is a machine and Sid is carrying over his Stanley Cup game. Between Torts, the roster they assembled and their game plan of "grit", I find myself rooting against team USA.

Mathews and McDavid are going to be really good. It's such a shame McDavid ended up in Edmonton instead of anywhere else.

Re: World Cup of Hockey
I enjoy watching this tournament, but I kinda wish that the NHL and NHLPA would collaborate with the IIHF to truly make this the World Cup of Hockey. There are other national teams that would be able to play in this thing. It may be something that they have to look into if NHL players aren't allowed to play in future Olympics...

Re: World Cup of Hockey
I saw in an article the other day that the Team NA & Team Europe are a one-time thing, and will be replaced by 2 qualifying national teams next go-round in 2020.

Does anyone else find this new dasher advertising annoying as hell? I pray this is just an ESPN thing. I'm trying to watch the game, not be distracted by moving advertisements on the walls.

Hope Finland steps up and beats Russia, just because a Canada - North America elimination game would be great.

Looks like Russia just had a really slow start until they exploded in the 2nd period vs Team NA.

CBC commenters were calling for the Pens to trade for Marchand.

I did not plan to watch any of the World Cup, but Canada-Russia was fun. Sid looks like pre-Winter-Classic-concussion Sid.
Marchand makes me feel icky rooting for him, but the chemistry with Sid is amazing.
Surprisingly quiet night for AO. A couple of early hits and not much else.

Re: World Cup of Hockey
Crosby's stat line is pretty impressive so far after 4 games:
- Tied for lead in goals with 3
- Points leader with 7 (#2 has 5 - his linemate)
- +/- leader at +7 (#2 is +5)
- His 2 wingers are #1 and #2 in shots (good stat for a cetreman)
- 60% on draws

So what should Team Europe's national anthem be?

Re: World Cup of Hockey
I am glad this tourney is over.
I cant stand seeing players, who are supposed to hate one another, hugging and celebrating together. Seems a bit disingenuous when these guys are playing grab ass during a tournament and then M Fing each other during the regular season.
When I see Sid and Giroux in a photo together, the only one smiling should be 87.
