Re: Johnny Hockey Died
Twitter was blowing up last night about unconfirmed reports that Johnny Gaudreau and his brother were killed last night. Unfortunately CBJ issued a statement, confirming it. Horrible, sad news.

Apparently they were in town for their sister's wedding, which was supposed to be today. Just awful.

Re: Johnny Hockey Died
This is just an awful tragedy. Killed by a POS drunk driver, leaving behind a wife and two small children. In town for his sister's wedding today and she just lost her brothers. The damage done to the family is unimaginable, so senseless, so unnecessary.

Wow. Shocked. Saw the headline and had to do a double take. Columbus has just had an awful string of bad incidents with this and Kivlenieks fireworks death a few years ago.
RIP to Johnny and his brother.
Edit: the report I read said a car in front of the suspects car moved over to the left to give Johnny and his brother room on their bikes....and the idiot driver passed that car ON THE RIGHT, slamming into the brothers.

Yeah, they were both at Boston College in 13-14. Probably how they became best friends.Puck-Lurker wrote: Fri Aug 30, 2024 1:51 pmDidn't they play collegiate hockey together?FLPensFan wrote: Fri Aug 30, 2024 11:08 amSomething else Dejan said to keep in mind....new Penguin Kevin Hayes lost his brother Jimmy a few years ago. Nice to see that the GoFundMe setup for Matthew's wife and her soon to be newborn baby, which was set to raise 30K, has already surpassed 339K in donations.

Re: Johnny Hockey Died
Interesting article from the Athletic today, and an "eerie connection" that I'm sure many missed...Don Waddell is the GM of Columbus after replacing Jarmo Kekalainen. Waddell was also the GM of the Atlanta Thrashers when Dan Snyder was killed by injuries sustained in a car crash with Dany Heatley.
I remember when Snyder passed, as I was travelling for work, had a layover in Atlanta that ended up having to put me up overnight at an airport hotel. On the shuttle from the hotel to the airport, they had local news radio on that announced Snyder had passed away from his injuries.
The article talks about Waddell navigating this before, that he still talks to Snyder's parents and they were one of the many texts he got from people after the Gaudreau news broke.
