Really wonder if he will consider retiring at this point. After everything he's been through. He needs to consider life after hockey. He's won his Cups. No need to push the envelope. If he goes on LTIR and retires he will still get paid regardless.

I hope he does for his sake. He's a HOF (not first ballot but eventually) defensemen, closest comparison is Zubov, 3 Stanley Cups and a pretty nice career for one team. What does he have left to prove?KG wrote: Wed Apr 16, 2025 10:58 amReally wonder if he will consider retiring at this point. After everything he's been through. When the hole was first discovered, Letang was told by a cardiologist that he could put off the surgery and continue playing. Facing a third consecutive extended offseason after missing the playoffs, Letang opted to have the surgery now so he can train regularly this summer before NHL teams reconvene in September.

I'd like him to prove he can hit the net on the PP.Daniel wrote: Wed Apr 16, 2025 11:28 amI hope he does for his sake. In all seriousness, I don't see him retiring unless a specialist told him he could make it worse by playing. He still has that burning desire to pinch when his team is up 1 goal with 90 seconds left.

If Letang is limited, or decides to retire, does this mean that Karlsson remains a Penguin?

Never mind Letang, it gives half the fanbase heart problems when he does!Cow_Master66 wrote: Wed Apr 16, 2025 12:49 pmI'd like him to prove he can hit the net on the PP.Daniel wrote: Wed Apr 16, 2025 11:28 amI hope he does for his sake. Well, that does help the Penguins get closer to a top 5 pick.Cow_Master66 wrote: Wed Apr 16, 2025 12:49 pmI'd like him to prove he can hit the net on the PP.Daniel wrote: Wed Apr 16, 2025 11:28 amI hope he does for his sake. Re: Letang undergoes successful heart procedure
Sincerely hope he recovers and will be OK going forward. He certainly has been through some serious Health Issues over the Years.Hope that he thinks hard about retiring and enjoying his future with his Family.3 Stanley Cups and a Long Successful Career with 1 Team is a nice legacy.
From a purely Hockey/Business Stand Point this Organization should realize the Health and On Ice Performance are reasons to move on.No disrespect to be On Board with this. There will be a Day to Honor his contribution to the Penguins History.

Kris Letang’s Penguins teammates don’t expect him to retire anytime soon
“I think he wants to play until he’s 50,” Sidney Crosby said of his longtime friend and teammate.
“Kris doesn’t care about money or anything like that,” said P.O Joseph, one of Letang’s closest friends. “This is a guy who just wants to play hockey every night. He wants to be out there in the battle. He wants to win. I think it would take an awful lot for him to quit playing, to be honest. It’s a little scary, obviously — it’s not like you ever want to hear about a teammate of yours having heart surgery. But he’ll find a way to get back at it.”
“He’s a maniac,” fellow Penguins defenseman Erik Karlsson said. “I was expecting to see him (Tuesday), to be honest. I talked to him (Tuesday), though, so I knew he was fine.”

Re: Letang undergoes successful heart procedure
I've often thought he would be good, post playing career, as a player development executive in the organization. You can't teach the fire he has and the raw want to compete.Zalapski33 wrote: Wed Apr 16, 2025 7:25 pmSincerely hope he recovers and will be OK going forward. He certainly has been through some serious Health Issues over the Years.Hope that he thinks hard about retiring and enjoying his future with his Family.3 Stanley Cups and a Long Successful Career with 1 Team is a nice legacy.
