The Penguins have released their April Practice Schedule. They will have two open practices in April at Iceoplex.
Pens defeat Rangers 4-3 (28-Mar-2009)
The Penguins defeated the Rangers 4-3 with a Sidney Crosby goal in the third in front of 17,110 at Mellon Arena. Pittsburgh had leads of 2-0 and 3-2 but entered the third period tied at three. Crosby took a pass from Ruslan Fedotenko at the red line, beat two defender and scored from the left circle near the midpoint of the third. Max Talbot, Matt Cooke and Fedotenko also scored for the Penguins.
Pens blank Flames 2-0 (26-Mar-2009)
The Penguins get a 31-save shutout from Marc-Andre Fleury and defeat the Flames 2-0 in front of 17,083 at Mellon Arena. Pittsburgh got a first-period power play goal from Kris Letang and a sweet Hal Gill goal in the third. The shutout was Fleury's fourth of the season and fifteenth of his career.
Pens split pair of games over weekend (23-Mar-2009)
The Penguins split a pair of games over the weekend with a 4-1 victory over Los Angeles on Friday night and a 3-1 loss to Philadelphia on Sunday afternoon. Against the Kings, the Pens cruised to an easy victory as they were up 4-0 after two periods on goals from Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Tyler Kennedy and Bill Guerin. The Flyers scored two power play goals and added an empty-netter to defeat the Pens. Kris Letang scored the lone Pittsburgh goal on the power play.
Penguins crush Thrashers 6-2 (18-Mar-2009)
The Penguins beat Atlanta 6-2 as Evgeni Malkin has a career-high five-point night in front of 17,088 at Mellon Arena. Pittsburgh scored twice in the first, three times in the second and once in the final period on ex-Pen Johan Hedberg. Malkin had two goals and three assists. Sergei Gonchar had a four-point night with a goal and three assists.
Pens get three of four points over weekend (16-Mar-2009)
The Penguins earn three of four points over the weekend in games against Ottawa and Boston. On Saturday afternoon, the Pens blew yet another two-goal lead in the third period and lost in a shootout to the Senators. On Sunday afternoon, Pittsburgh scored four times in the third to overcome a 3-2 deficit heading into the third period. Mathieu Garon got a rare start in net and made 21 saves in the victory.
Pens third-period rally nets point in 4-3 shootout loss to Columbus (13-Mar-2009)
The Penguins again overcome a third-period deficit but lose 4-3 in a shootout to Columbus in front of franchise-record 19,167 (including numerous Pens fans) at Nationwide Arena. Pittsburgh found themselves down 3-0 early in the third period as the Blue Jackets scored once in each period. The Pens then reeled off three goals in a 3:25 span near the midpoint of the third to send the game to overtime and eventually a shootout. Kristian Huselius was the only shooter able to convert giving Columbus the victory but the Pens earned another valuable point.
Pens rebound from two-goal deficit to beat Panthers 4-3 in shootout (11-Mar-2009)
The Penguins rebound from a 3-1 deficit heading into the third period to defeat the Panthers 4-3 in a shootout in front of 17,132 at Mellon Arena. Pittsburgh led 1-0 after the first on an Evgeni Malkin backhander from in tight at 18:31. Florida responded with three goals in the third. The Pens, in a reversal from Sunday's game versus the Caps, scored twice early in the third to send the game eventually to a shootout. Kris Letang and Evgeni Malkin converted their attempts while Florida were unable to score on either of their first two attempts. The Penguins outshot Florida 50-21.
Penguins blow lead but defeat Caps 4-3 in shootout (9-Mar-2009)
The Penguins blew a two-goal advantage early in the third period but defeat the Capitals 4-3 with a Sidney Crosby shootout winner in front of 18,277 at Verizon Center. Pittsburgh led 3-1 heading into the third on goals from Sidney Crosby, Sergei Gonchar and Bill Guerin but the Caps scored two goals in the first 1:18 of the third period to force overtime and an eventual shootout. Sidney Crosby converted the lone attempt and Marc-Andre Fleury stopped all three Washington shooters to earn the victory.
Penguins beat Panthers 4-1 with three goals in the third (6-Mar-2009)
The Penguins win their fifth straight by defeating the Panthers 4-1 in front of 18,933 at BankAtlantic Center. Florida opened the scoring late in the second period but Sidney Crosby, back from injury, responded with his 24th of the season just 24 seconds later. Tyler Kennedy scored twice in the third period and Kris Letang notched his seventh of the year to earn the Pens a key win.
Goligoski sent back to WBS (6-Mar-2009)
The Penguins have re-assigned defenseman Alex Goligoski to the WBS Penguins.
Pre-game notes - 3/5/09 (5-Mar-2009)
Sergei Gonchar will miss this evening's game against the Panthers. He has returned home to Pittsburgh to be with his wife, who is expecting the birth of the couple's second child.
Alex Goligoski has been recalled from WBS and will take Gonchar's spot in the line-up.
Sidney Crosby is expected to play tonight after missing four games with a groin injury. His wingers reportedly will be Chris Kunitz and Bill Guerin.

The Penguins have re-assigned forward Tim Wallace to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League (AHL).
Trade Deadline 2009 (4-Mar-2009)
- Pens acquire D Andy Wozniewski from St. Louis for D Danny Richmond. Wozniewski will join WBS.
- Pens claim RW Craig Adams off of waivers from Chicago.
- Bill Thomas and Miroslav Satan cleared waivers. Thomas and Satan have been sent to WBS.
- Pens acquire Bill Guerin from Isles for conditional draft pick. Fifth rounder to start. Fourth if the Pens make the playoffs. Third rounder if Pens win a series.
Penguins win 4th straight with 3-1 victory over Lightning (4-Mar-2009)
The Penguins win their fourth straight (all without injured captain Sidney Crosby) as they down Tampa Bay 3-1. Matt Kunitz scored twice for Pittsburgh and now has points in all three games he's played for the Pens. Matt Cooke scored the other Pittsburgh goal off of a nice feed from Pascal Dupuis.

Pens win pair over weekend (1-Mar-2009)
The Penguins win a pair of games over the weekend to climb back into the final playoff spot. On Friday, the Pens beat the Blackhawks 5-4 in overtime on a Malkin goal after giving up two two-goal leads. On Sunday, the Pens blew out the Stars 4-1.
