Connie Hawkins, professional basketball player. He played for the Pittsburgh Rens (huh?) of the ABL, Pittsburgh Pipers (ABA), the Harlem Globetrotters and later for Phoenix Suns, Lakers and Hawks of the NBA. He was initially banned from NBA due to being falsely accused of point shaving at the University of Iowa. Was the precursor to Dr. J's style on the hardwood. Develop the hesitation hook shot.

Note: "Pittsburgh-based attorneys David and Roslyn Litman filed an anti-trust lawsuit in November 1966 on Hawkins’ behalf against the NBA for its ban on their client" (via Post Gazette).

Bruno Sammartino, professional wrestler, at 82. To us old timers, Bruno was an absolute legend in Pittsburgh. How strong was he?

"In his prime, Sammartino weighed 270 pounds and bench pressed 565 pounds. At a gym in New York, he wowed onlookers by benching 338 pounds an astonishing 38 times in a row. "

Burt Reynolds at age 82, from a heart attack. Too many entertaining movies to list.

Tidbit: He attended Florida State University on a football scholarship and played halfback. While at Florida State, Reynolds roomed with college football broadcaster and analyst Lee Corso.

Bruno lost the title the 1st time vs. Ivan Koloff ( the Russian Bear) and the 2nd time vs. Superstar Billy Graham. Graham was the first steroid wrestler of the 1970’s. Bruno and Superstar put on some incredible matches. I was very lucky to witness some of them at Madison Square Garden as a kid. Bruno was loved by many and is definitely one of the greatest of all time.

I saw him getting off of the Test Track ride with some official escorts in Disney World a few years ago. I said "Just like a tie fighter" and he laughed.
