Jake can't play until March 10th due to LTIR rules.
Ok my bad. Forgot.

No. He's on IR. Think he's eligible to come off the 10th.

Let's see what the deal is. I know Dubas wanted Vunting earlier in the season, but I highly doubt he is the main piece. Getting Nikishin, Nadeau or even a Seth Jarvis or Martin Necas would still make this a good deal. Doubtful on last 2 though.

I assume Bunting is part of this deal. Hopefully there is a 1st round pick and a good prospect coming along.

Kypreos might be right. Dubas may be clueless.

I'm guessing the prospect is going to be Ponomarev who looks ready for permanent bottom 6 duties in the NHL right now. He projects as a 3C, solid two-way game and a little offense but mostly a grinder type with speed. No chance dman Nikishin is being moved and their other dman prospect Morrow probably not either, though Morrow isn't signed yet.

Bunting will be 29 at the start of next season. This piece is odd in a Guentzel trade especially when Bunting could have been signed instead of trading for Riley Smith. This is a very odd move to me

What would the benefit of waiting until after the game before announcing the deal be? Maybe cap reasons? One less game counts for less cap hit for Jake?

Maybe they have to go through medicals for Jake & Bunting

If that's the case - hopefully Bunting fails his physical.

Actually, I think Jake Guentzel trade is pretty good for Penguins when people see final details.

Should set up the rebuild, or at least lay quite a few tracks for that road

If Morrow is THE/ONE of the prospects, here's some info on him from a few different sources. First, he's a 21 year old RHD man playing at the UMass. He's a Junior there. He was a 2nd round pick, 40th overall in 2021.

From Elite Prospects:

With constant hip pocket deception, changes of pace, and eyes that never reveal the intended play, he embarrasses defenders. After breaking down a defender, he continues the manipulation to drag over another defender, before rolling his wrists, turning the fake shot into a pass to an open teammate.

From Dobber Prospects:

A mobile, right-shot defender who can control the game in all three zones. He has all of the tools that the modern-day defender needs but concerns because he plays prep are present. If Morrow reaches his potential, there could be something special here.

November 2023 – Morrow took his time making his decision to go back to school and so far, it looks like it’s paid off. He has started his season with 10 points in 8 games, which puts him 2nd on UMass in scoring. Morrow’s offensive skill has only gotten better during his time in college, which helps his case to be a power play quarterback when he steps into the Carolina Hurricanes lineup within the next year or two. The biggest drawback, which has always been the most glaring weakness in his game, is his defensive IQ. Until his defensive game takes that step, his ceiling is capped out as a power play specialist.

The Athletic:

3. Scott Morrow, RHD, 21 (UMass-Amherst)
One of the most productive freshman defensemen in college hockey two seasons ago, the Minutemen’s leading scorer as a sophomore last year, and a point per game defenseman as a junior while, most importantly, playing better defensively in huge minutes (nearly 25 a night), Morrow is a real talent who made the jump from high school hockey directly into the NCAA look easy from a skill standpoint (he has had to do some maturing/growing up on and off the ice).

He’s an excellent transition defender who transports pucks confidently, plays boldly inside the offensive zone and possesses impressive handling skill for a defenseman. He’s an exit/entry machine who carves teams up through the neutral zone with head fakes, side steps and cuts (his skating impresses on its edges, even if he’s not explosive). When he’s on the ice, he wants to take over and direct play in possession and does so by guiding opposing players out of his way. On top of all that, he’s a 6-foot-2 righty whose game defensively has taken important steps to cut back on mistakes, stay in better positioning and eliminate some of the bad habits that concerned scouts. There’s real top-four upside to Morrow if he continues to round out his game. UMass has a great track record developing top defensemen, too.

For whatever it’s worth, there’s discussion about Jackson Blake as another potential prospect. He is the son of Jason Blake (piece of crap) and is being described as Bryan Rust with better hands.

If they don't get a 1st, hopefully the 2 prospects are 2 of Carolina's better prospects. Rumor is Morrow 1 of them. He's a top 3 prospect for them.
