I believe that's 1k assists and 10th all time in scoring. Unless it's un assisted?

Fortunately for the Pens, not the case. They just needed to be sure to get the two points to move into WC2, even if it was a SO win. Obviously a regulation win would have been preferable, but they are in for the moment with control of their destiny again, for what that is worth.

That’s why you trade for EK. Not for his “defense”.

Seriosuly though, he needs to be better at defense.

He tied Esposito earlier on the goal for 10th but now he passes him for sole possession. And it is 1000 assists.

I can't believe how bad the defense was, especially and specifically Karlsson. Not often a goalie gives up 5 goals on 30 shots and you can say he saved his team's bacon, but it's true tonight.

There we go. Showed unassisted for a moment but now I see again. Truly incredible.

Sid is trying to single handedly drag this team into the playoffs in a Herculean effort.

Huge win. And they win it in overtime! Like Phil Bourque said, they never do it the easy way. Big games from Sid (as usual), Rust, and Ned. I think they’re going to get in the playoffs. But no matter what happens I think they have to trade Karlsson this summer. He is a luxury they can’t afford.

I’d rather see what a coach who isn’t a stubborn ******* come in and see if he can make it work.

I think they'll have to wait another year on Karlsson. They are almost assuredly going to have to retain salary, and probably quite a bit of it, to move him in a deal.

At least from this point on, the Penguins control their own destiny, being a point up on the Caps and Wings with everyone having 3 games remaining.

Pens were outplayed for most of the 3rd Period.Karlsson with as bad as it gets defensively. No where close to defending well enough.
Ned had an up and down game.5 Goals allowed but still made many great saves.
Sid with 3 Points, brilliant game.Rust with 3 Points was huge.Reilly Smith had a big 2nd Period and made a difference.
This incompetent poorly designed failure of a PP once again was a huge reason this wasn't a Win in Regulation.Pathetic and zero answer 79 Games.
Top 4 Defense played lousy.Pens generated very little Offensive Pressure.Blown Lead in the 3rd Period.Same mistakes not corrected from Sully.

Hard to believe the Pens won this the way they played this way,Karlsson and Letang with destructive play they nearly sunk them.
The effort from Sid was a huge reason they didn't lose.Carter had a clutch Goal that should have been enough.Somehow Letang and Karlsson scored Goals in spite of their play,EK with the huge OT winner. They got a Victory in a Game they clearly were not the better team.

Isles win in OT and bolster their 3rd place. Pens in WC2 and back in control of their destiny.

Isles just won. Looks like they'll get the 3rd slot in the Metro. It's there for the Pens to take WC2. ( I would rather play the Rangers instead of Carolina personally).

They are going to have to play much much better defensively from here on out though. EK needs to work on his game management and awareness of when to go for it and when to settle back. Letang needs to make smarter decisions. I don't know why I'm even bothering. These plays are what they are at this stage in their careers. Just have to hope the good outweighs the bad I guess.

Exactly. None of these players are going to change and instead of trying to change their game after a decade plus, you need a coach who knows how to properly deploy and utilize what he has in order to maximize the strengths and minimize the weaknesses, instead of trying to force players to completely change their games to suit his tastes, which results in them often being less effective in both what they're good at and what they're bad at.

Luckily Lyon was horrible. Ned made the timely saves.

We starting him again Saturday?
