or have zero direction. Making you run around for hours until you find out where you are supposed to go.
I could not agree with this more. Don't get me wrong, I loved the original Legend of Zelda...but talk about a game with NO direction whatsoever. You could literally wander around the map for days trying to find the dungeons. Was there even some kind of map to show you the places you had already been? I thought it at least had that.
Those games were also the first of their kind for the home system. Places with broader worlds.
I think the fun of those were, I had notebooks full of drawn maps and codes and other tips. It was fun trying to figure that out.
The world's weren't that big, at least not close to the size of the world's in today's video games.
That was what made Ocarina of Time such an incredible game....for the first time in gaming history, you were actually exploring a real 3d world. And I am all about exploring every possible corner of the map. I have been playing Fallout 3 for a total of 60 hours (pathetic, I know) because I take the time to explore every location. Talk about getting your money's worth....
I do too. I got the first 100 and then cancelled my subscription. Actually, the only one I'm issing is the track and field II one (I think issue #3). It got totally ruined.

Zelda came with a map. I know because I have burned every bush and bomb every wall in an attempt to find secret items and I still never found those damn silver arrows. Anyways, I have a map full of circled bushes and random walls. I also can't get that far anymore....

That's why I had a subscription to Nintendo power.
A lot of those games become so much more fun when you actually know where you are going. Metroid: bomb random floors and walls in order to continue. It's crazy hard.

lol...I used to ridicule my friend--when he would visit the cave where you get a chance between a heart container and a potion, he would always pick the potion. Complete lack of foresight there...
I did have the silver arrows, but completely forget where I got em at.
The best was spending an hour killing the red octoroks over and over again until you had enough money to get the red ring in the beginning of the game. That was clutch

I thought you find the red ring....
I definitely bought the blue ring in the beginning.
I found out that the silver arrows are in the last level, but I can't get that far anymore to get them.

You get the silver arrows and the red ring in the 9th dungeon, the last one.
The Blue ring is the one you bought. I did the same. I would take the first 30 minutes playing the game going around in a circle collecting coins so I can buy the blue ring and the candle. That give you a huge advantage.
I beat that twice w/o dying and in one sitting. I think when I first joined this board, I mentioned that in a thread and canaan tried it. I don't know if he ever finished it or not.

Good call...it was the blue ring you buy. I remember in Level 7 you had to give that creature the piece of meat to get through...I am pretty sure that was the first time I called that Nintendo Power phone number to get help.
Now what about the "2nd Adventure"? Much harder than the first...it was like a whole new Zelda game
An XBLA game called Shadow Complex is released today. It is getting awesome reviews and looks fantastic.. the plot is written by Orson Scott Card. It is basically a metroid game for people over the age of 8.

that game looks awesome, but no offense... if my girlfriend got kidnapped by some secret organization armed to the teeth ready to throw over the US, they can have her. I'm running.

I don't have a 360. it easily looks like its worth 15 bucks though.

Secret of Mana... never played it so I figured I'll give the ROM a go.
Are you using a walkthrough or walking around blindly? I've been planning to play it for several years now.
I actually put Mana on hold to play Wind Waker. Is it really tough to find your way around?
Not sure about tough, but annoying until you get the Ballad of Gales or whatever the song that lets you warp is. Even after that, the sailing got stale for me. I would enjoy the game MUCH more if there were less sailing. I also hate that there are 2 "stealth" levels - I absolutely despise these in games.

I was asking about SoM. I use to dislike the sailing in WW, but don't mind it now for some reason.
After not playing for a few days, I resumed Lego Star Wars and completed Episode II and most of Episode II. I'm now 100% done with Episode I, Episode II, the 6 Bonus boards and purchased all 14 bricks. I just need two more canisters on level 5 and level 6 of Episode III and need to beat the Super Story to be 100% done. That should take about an hour.

I find the sailing incredibly relaxing for some reason....especially if you have a Corona and are playing Jimmy Buffett, you can almost imagine you are in the game

Then to move on to the original trilogy!
dang, your way further along than I am. Got Episode I about done and did a level or two on Episode II. The more I play this game, the more I realized how much better I liked Batman.
