Interesting about the OP. He or she should stop by and see the epic post they created!

I like the new Swell Season album. Probably not for everyone, but very solid...

Plus, Glen Hansard looks like Miikka Kiprusoff.

For any Iced Earth fans out there... pre-IE Matt Barlow.

He obviously brought the chorus from Entry along with him to IE... seeing as it is the chorus of Diary.

Dude, solid find. I've wanted to hear this since I found out that Barlow had written and recorded the song pre-Iced Earth. After hearing it.....it sounds better as Diary. Seems like they were a decent band though.

What are your thoughts on pre-Barlow Iced Earth? My opinion is probably pretty bias because I would buy a CD of Barlow signing the alphabet, but Gene Adam and John Greely were just awful. I have Iced Earth and Night of the Stormrider for the sake of having them, but if I have the urge to listen to a song from the first two albums I bust out Days of Purgatory or Alive in Athens.

I could never make up my mind on Iced Earth. They're a very talented band, but somehow I can't get into it so much. It's either too soft or too hard. I'll listen to anything from Helloween and Fates Warning to Cannibal Corpse and Dark Funeral, but that little spot in between..... not aggressive enough, yet not melodic enough. Really weird. But they're good, for sure.

That is an amazing song. Try "Last Drop Falls" from them as well.

I think it's pretty hilarious that Dethklok, this joke band from an Adult Swim cartoon, is actually one of the more talented, interesting metal bands out there right now.

They're probably one of the few new groups that I listen to regularly.

I've definitely been on a Receiving End of Sirens kick lately...such an underrated band. I'm glad I got to see one of their last shows...it was pretty incredible.

I just got the 2008 Mt Helium release "Faces". They used to be called Apex Theory, but now one of the guitarists takes care of the lead vocals.

They kind of sound like Thrice, before they got all P-fied on Vheissue

I'm not new to SA. Just what I was listening to yesterday. :)

My favorite song from them actually is from the second album. It is so pretty, melodic, yet fast and has an insane solo section for the guitar and keys. Love this kind of music. Stratovarius is another favorite band of mine in similar style. Probably even more professional than these guys. So much good music coming out of Scandinavia.

My favorite SA song.

Truf about Scandinavia. Nightwish, Amorphis, Ensiferum, Sonata Arctica (Caleb!), and Stratovarius (Hunting High and Low!) are just a sample of what Finland has to offer. Oh, how I pine to visit Helsinki... Watch a Finish Elite league game, catch some underground Goth Metal shows, take the fairy over to Tallinn and get some cheap booze...

Someday...

That sounds like a good plan, man. Just make sure you have at least 2 weeks to play there. A buddy of mine just went to London. I asked him how long he's going to be there. 5 days, including weekend. What!? You can probably exclude two of those, because that's departure and arrival. He had to get back to work... :face:

Amorphis's contributions to the metal world cannot be stated enough. They somehow managed to replace an original (sort of) vocalist with a guy who's not a clone yet is somehow better. Their last 3 albums are nothing short of spectacular, with Eclipse easily being a top 50 metal album in my collection.

I think Skyforger might even be my favorite and I think that came out earlier this year. My Kantele is my favorite song of theirs, though.

I just loooooooooooove the early Donnas. They later changed to too much of a Rock sound. Got some commercial success because of it, but the music suffered/s big time. Their early stuff, however, was very similar to the Ramones. All female, extremely raw, and somewhat slappy, but who cares. Great songs, great energy.
