Agreed. I'm curious to see how well it turns out. I hope it does well.Idoit40fans wrote:He is heroic. I don't know what I think about him being in a starring role though. Re: Movie
Watched "Moon" last night, what an amazing movie. Nice to get a genuine scifi movie thats not full of huge explosions and unnecessary action. Kept me wondering what was happening all the way to the end. My wife doesn't really like sci fi movies and she loved it as well. Anyone see it yet?

Kevin Smith's new movie. Kind of looks like any cop movie from 97-2003. Blue Streak 2.shafnutz05 wrote:I just saw my first preview for that cop movie coming out with Bruce Willis, Tracy Morgan, and Stiffler from American Pie. I am actually somewhat intrigued, as I like all three of them.

Apparently the movie is much raunchier than the trailer leads on. It's classified as a "hard R." I'm going to go see it as I've been a big Kevin Smith fan (well, mostly Clerks - Dogma) but I'm a bit concerned with the fact that he didn't write it.

I'm a big Smith fan too, but I was kind of disappointed with Zack and Miri so we will see. I think it looks pretty good just nothing that I haven't seen before, not that its a bad thing, but it does have Walter B in it and I like Tracey Morgan. I'm glad he is doing something else for a change it got really old with Zack and Miri IMO, big step down. I wish he was doing Red State.nocera wrote:doublem wrote:Kevin Smith's new movie. You thought Zack and Miri was the big step down? I thought J&SB Strike Back was. And then he kept walking down the stairs with Jersey Girl and Clerks 2. I actually thought Z&M was decent.
I agree though, I was he was doing Red State. As sad as it is, I think his finger has been far from the pulse of comedy for a while now, at least film wise. SModcast is pretty great. I'm really intrigued by Hit Somebody, though.

Re: Movie
I don't get how kevin smith keeps getting to make movies. Not really a comment on the quality, but it's not like he's ever had a big hit. Has he ever had a movie make more than $50 mil?

10/31/08 Zack and Miri Make a Porno Wein. $31,457,946Froggy wrote:I don't get how kevin smith keeps getting to make movies. Not really a comment on the quality, but it's not like he's ever had a big hit. Has he ever had a movie make more than $50 mil?
7/21/06 Clerks II MGM/W $24,148,068
3/26/04 Jersey Girl Mira. $25,268,157
8/24/01 Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back Mira. $30,085,147
11/12/99 Dogma Lions $30,652,890
4/4/97 Chasing Amy Mira. $12,021,272
10/20/95 Mallrats Gram. $2,122,561
10/19/94 Clerks Mira. $3,151,130
He makes movies for relatively cheap costs and has a pretty steady track record since 1999. So studios know about how much money they can shell out and about how much money they expect to make with him.

Re: Movie
Kevin Smith has a solid fanbase that pretty much guarantees 25-30 million per picture. Beyond the BO, his movies do incredibly well on DVD.Froggy wrote:I don't get how kevin smith keeps getting to make movies. He gets to continue making movies because he always makes a profit. Even Jersey Girl made a profit once the international BO/DVD sales are added in. Z&M's BO nearly doubled the film's budget. He's a sure thing.
*edit*
Just realized I said pretty much the same thing as Pavel Bure, so I'll add this:
Keep in mind that Clerks, Mallrats, and Chasing Amy had very limited releases. Clerks was only ever shown on 96 screens. Marllrats has 852 and was a BO failure but found a home on DVD and made its money back twice over. Chasing Amy was only on 553 screens. It wasn't until Dogma, when Smith actually got some real actors involved (mostly Chris Rock and hot off of Good Will Hunting Matty and Ben) that he got a budget and more screens.

Re: Movie
jersey girl...25 million...huh?
zack and miri was decent, but a little excessive. almost like..."well this is a C+ joke, but dropping an f-bomb in there or some outrageous visual would make it a solid B". it really didn't show much restraint...but for a movie about making a porno, i guess that's how it's supposed to be.

Loved them both and thought he was really moving towards something. But than you get Z and M which is just a lamer version of any apatow movie. And then he kept walking down the stairs with Jersey Girl and Clerks 2.

Yes! Definitely looks funny. Cusack being in it is hilarious, since they're back in time in the 80s, which is when he got his start doing ridiculous movies like Better Off Dead (which, by the way, I love).Froggy wrote:I just saw a trailer for a movie called "Hot Tub Time Machine" which, inexplicably stars john cusack. it actually looks kind of hysterical.

I think the original title for the movie was supposed to be "a couple of dicks"

Re: Movie
i was a musical kid, and i still love broadway and stuff, so the movie "Camp" cracks me up. it was made in 2003, and i saw it when it first came out. me and my sister rented it. cracked us up because it reminded us of the kids we went to high school with. at the time, there were no "big names", but one of the girls, Anna Kendrick, is now in "Up In The Air" with Clooney. she's phenomenal.
if you're a musical geek like i am, i'd check it out.
