Re: 93.7 The Fan Now On
I've been listening since 6. "Alexander, Burton, Colony." Not calling it "ABC" yet, but give it time. It's ok so far. INPO:
1) Alexander's a decent anchor.
2) JB announcing that "he's not much of a regular-season hockey guy" was downright stupid. Again with this. If you're a sports media person, I don't think it's too much to ask to actually get interested in the big current sport.
3) JB is still pretty good on the mic. However, I'd prefer more Colony. He started off getting a good share of air, but went back to the update desk. Colony >> JB as the #2.
4) The Hot Seat segment was pretty awkward, as was "Ask JB"
5) Linelli has better content, but ABC is more interesting.
6) Marino on now. Pretty good. Colony asks great questions with great delivery.
Pretty nebulous and I'm sure the format will find its level.

Ya, he keeps getting stepped on by the bumper music.IronDukes37 wrote:Sounds good so far, agree with most of Eismann.
Nothing big to complain about.
Needs more Colony (think he spent most of the first 2 hours in the back working out the kinks on his update sound bites)

Re: 93.7 The Fan Now On
They are definitely having "first day" problems but overall it is a heck of a lot better than Mike and Mike.
I totally agree with getting Colony more air time. Alexander sounds nervous but that will probably pass as time moves on.
I'll give the Vinnie Richichi and Ron Cook 10-2 show a try today but will probably always listen to Stan and Guy.
I can guarantee I'll never listen to 1250am in the afternoon anymore.

I'm anticipating that, myself. I love Starkey's shows and writing, and also thought highly of Seibel. Between their show and Madden, that should wipe out the current incarnation of ESPN.Point Breeze Penguins wrote:I can guarantee I'll never listen to 1250am in the afternoon anymore.

Yea from what I listened to on the way into work this morning, it sounded decent. I'll give it a week or two, and go from there.Point Breeze Penguins wrote:No question.
They did say something this morning that threw me off. They said they'd talk about entertainment, and the like, but over saturate with sports.
I don't know how they are going to be able to concentrate on sports mostly 24-7 and be able to keep interest talking about the same subjects over and over, especially if you get callers asking the same questions worded differently day after day.

Re: 93.7 The Fan Now On
You sorta stole my thunder. 24/7 requires relying on callers more than most stations, and the dumber ones have a knack for bringing a show to a screeching halt.Malkamaniac wrote:I don't know how they are going to be able to concentrate on sports mostly 24-7 and be able to keep interest talking about the same subjects over and over, especially if you get callers asking the same questions worded differently day after day.Point Breeze Penguins wrote:No question.
Also--kinda odd to debut the station at the start of a two-week period where none of the three major teams play. I guess they'll have to live on the Olympics, Pitt basketball and Steelers personnel moves. Oh yeah, and pitchers and catchers report Wednesday!

I do hope they succeed though.

Well it does make sense to debut this week since the National shows are all on break.imau2fan wrote:You sorta stole my thunder. 24/7 requires relying on callers more than most shows, and the dumber ones have a knack for bringing a show to a screeching halt.Malkamaniac wrote:I don't know how they are going to be able to concentrate on sports mostly 24-7 and be able to keep interest talking about the same subjects over and over, especially if you get callers asking the same questions worded differently day after day.Point Breeze Penguins wrote:No question.

Was listening in the car on the way to work. I'm excited for this station. Seems to have some good lineups.
You can tell the first day jitters are there. I'm sure over time, things iwll smooth out. Excited though.

What was he saying about the BE? I just turned it on at work. Just wondering if they were talking about the BE possibly getting raided again.Point Breeze Penguins wrote:Burton...Trangese is not Big East Conf. Commish anymore...

Re: 93.7 The Fan Now On
For today being the first day, outside of the obvious dead air at some points, and talking over each other. It was pretty good. It's all gonna get smoothed out and hopefully the station lasts a good while.newarenanow wrote:Was listening in the car on the way to work. I'm excited for this station. It's much better than the X morning show and DVE's "sports" talk.

Unfortunately, there isn't much they can do now. They blew it back in 2003. No current BCS team is coming.Loaf31 wrote:
