I watched most of the Pirate's Series going to bed each night this weekend. I have about 15 minutes left on At World's End.
i dont remember if this was the last one or not but at the end of the credits they totally set it up for a fourth one but i havent heard anything
Word is a fourth is on the way. It's supposed to just follow Sparrow and possibly Barbosa in their hunt for the fountain of youth. The title is Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. That's all that's known about it now but I believe the release is rumored to be May 2011.

has anyone seen cop out?
I did. I laughed maybe three times during the hour and a half. It's really, really bad. The only bright spot is Seann William Scott and a brief Jason Lee cameo.
On to Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back in my Kevin Smith fest. Dogma is probably his best written movie and the one in which he has the most to say. J&SBSB is a fun cartoonish inside joke of a movie.
the one scene that kills me is in the 2nd one and all the "good guys" are running around on the beach and fighting each other over the locker thing (sorry if i'm off on the details). and it's not that they're just fighting, it's that they're literally trying to kill each other. i know i'm nitpicking, but you can't bring in attempted death blows into a scene with all the goofy protagonists bickering with each other.
finally just finished watchmen. gotta say i enjoyed it. i have no experience with the book, so it was a little confusing for a while, but it was really well done with good, provocative characters and what i thought was a good twist on the ending.
aside from being really really long, i'm not sure why it's been somewhat dissed here. maybe it wasn't true to the book?

I thought the movie was pretty good. It just didn't have the Alan Moore touch. Some things were changed for no real reason which was kind of weird but overall I thought it was pretty good, I have seen far worse comic movies.

Watchmen is an hour too long to be enjoyed as a popcorn movie, but an hour too short to be a faithful adaption. I actually prefer the ending to the movie to the ending in the book. There is NO way they wouldve been able to film the ending to the book.

the one thing i don't get is what constitutes a "superhero". were these people just born with super strength and agility? or was it something they acquired over time like batman? i don't understand how they became who they were.

Well, they aren't really "superheroes" they have no real superpowers" of course Dr. M does, but he is the only one. They are just normal people going out and fighting crime, so yes in the batman sense, but also the term watchmen kind of comes from the idea that they aren't exactly good people going out and fighting crime like other "superheros" that is another problem they never really went into anyones back story
Yeah, pretty much what doublem said. no powers except for Dr. Manhattan. The book really explores the motivations behind being a superhero a bit more. What kind of person is screwed up enough to wear a crazy costume and risk their life fighting criminals every night? Lots of self loathing, narcissism, toss in a dash of possible homosexuality.
the problem is that the story in the book is so rich, that when you start to edit it down for the movie, you're gonna cut out a lot of good stuff. I would have liked to see more about the original team, other than the opening montage.
I never read the Watchmen book, but I liked the movie well enough. It has fighting, some nudity, and raises some interesting philosophical questions (3 key elements in any good movie ). I read some stuff about the plot online beforehand, so I didn't find it too hard to follow. However, it did seem like they could have included more explanation of what was going on and the characters' motive. Of course, doing that properly would have made the movie 4 hours long.
yeah, but they portrayed all the non-Dr. M's as having super-strength and agility. were they just living in some karate dojo during their formative years or something?
and i loved the opening credits. definitely got me hooked.
watched eternal sunshine of the spotless mind the other day for the first time. how did i not know about this movie before now??? GREAT movie. I'd be willing to say it's in the top 3 Jim Carey movies i've watched.

i have a soft spot for dumb and dumber as well as ace ventura. comparing those two to eternal sunshine of the spotless mind is apples to oranges, so i'll just throw them all up at the top together.

Focus Features seem to me to make a lot of quality films.

Spoiler:
I'm assuming they do some type of training but they never got into that in the movie. Adrian is super smart so that explains why you can grab the bullet, etc. If I remember correctly Rorschach was a boxer, plus factor in his insatiability makes him very dangerous as a crime fighter
