Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Sounds like you're looking for schwarzbier, a very dark lager with a medium alcohol level. Saranac Black Forest is a schwarzbier, and the style is also popular in Japan, of all places. If you see Asahi or Sapporo "Black Beer" in stores, that's a schwarzbier.Kraftster wrote:So anyway, anyone with any suggestions along the lines of Magic Hat Howl that you think I might find? I'm probably going to just go browse, but, figured I'd see what I could find from lgpers first.

I had coors light for the first time in a long time at the Pens game today. The story started bad, I know, but it gets worse. It was purchased for me and I didn't know what I was about to drink, assuming it was just thebatt blue, as thats what I always drink. That was not a pleasant first sip.

Flying Dog is pretty good. I got a 6-pack of their Raging B*tch IPA recently.... recommended if you like hoppy beers.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Couple that I've had recently:
New Belgium 2 Below - nice winter beer
New Belgium Mighty Arrow - IPA, but not too hoppy or bitter at all.
Both of these have a similar flavor that is also in Fat Tire.
If you like vanilla, Breckenridge Vanilla Porter is very good. One of my recent favorites.

Old Chub.... Sooooo good. Bocktown has a very decent selection in Robinson if you're looking for something different.

Up in Erie Federal Court yesterday I had to swing by Wegmans for their stellar beer selection. I picked up a four-pack of Ommegang Three Philosophers which I will be trying as soon as I get home tonight. Anyone had it?

goin to hofbrauhaus tonight. dunkel ftw
10% abv

I went to D's and made my own spring IPA sampler.
2 Bells Hop Slam
1 Bells Two Hearted
Terrapin IPA
Souther Tier Pale Ale (hated it, Southern tier is becoming hit or miss for me, that Matt & Phins beer or whatever its called sucks too)
Ithaca Brewery IPA (edit, i just remembered)
This time of year is great when IPA's are sort of considered the seasonal beer

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Speaking of Southern Tier, has anyone tried the Raspberry Porter. I almost got that yesterday. If its more tart than sweet as result of the raspberries, I could see it being good.Troy Loney wrote:Letang Is The Truth wrote:i will second this. love itTroy Loney wrote:Bell's Hop Slam. Amazing.

The southern tier variety pack had a raspberry beer in it, if it was the porter (not sure, don't remember) it was sweet, not tart. Very flavorful and pretty tasty.
But i think that is a good example with the problem i have with souther tier, they just exaggerate the flavors of too many beers. The pale ale was way too much. I think it works their style only works with select beers, like the pumking, that beer is flavorful and the perfect pumpkin beer in my opinion. But then if you try something like their creme brulee beer...sheesh!! tastes like freaking creme brullee, you can have like two sips than your full.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
for lighter beer, i like Walt Whit.
for heavy beer (and i love heavy beer), anything by Founders is awesome. Breakfast Stout, Old Curmudgeon, Dirty Bastard...all around 8-9% ABV...all delicious.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Yeah, I was a bit too worried that the ST Rasp Port would be too much Raspberry and not enough Porter. I agree that Pumking is pretty amazing.
I thought Breakfast Stout was intense for some reason or another, but pretty good.
I had the Rogue's Chipotle Ale a couple weeks ago. It was a pretty cool beer, actually.
