I have about 6 other books I wanted to read, but they seem to be getting put on hold until Song of Fire and Ice is finished, can't put these down...

I just finished The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. I couldn't put it down. Overall, looking back, the story isn't anything crazy (a more adult version of Harry Potter, kind of) but...the way Rothfuss writes is awesome. Just a solid author that kept me hooked for all 650 (or so) pages. (" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)
I'm currently reading The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie. I'm only 30 or so pages in, so nothing to report yet. Hasn't grabbed me like Name of the Wind did. (" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)
Also, I'm bouncing back between that and Drinking with George by George Wendt. Which is his autobiographical beer drinking story. Definitely entertaining...almost like Three Sheets in book form, but with Norm. (" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

Just finished reading 2 books, both non fiction:
"American on Purpose - Craig Ferguson". Fun read, and a fast read.
"The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" - absolutely fascinating, sad, infuriating and frustrating all at once. I forgot who in here recommended it to me, but thanks so much. An amazing read.

Clive Cussler is one of my favorite authors. I have read every single Dirk Pitt novel, along with the Kurt Austin stuff. I don't like all the crap with Dirk Pitt's son being the lead character, but I guess Cussler's son wants to take a new tack.tjand72 wrote:Just got done with James Rollins' Excavation.

I didn't really care for it that much, it wasn't what I expected. The title and jacket made me think I was going to get some keen observations on being a naturalized citizen, especially after 9/11. Instead what I got was that Craig started doing drugs early in his live in Scotland, continued doing drugs in England, back to Scotland, did drugs, drank and did drugs in New York, back to Great Britain, did more drugs, got a gig on Drew Carey, and voila, now he has his own show. I'm glad he made something of himself and when I can stay up late enough I think his show is ROFL funny but... the book, not so much.llipgh2 wrote:Just finished reading 2 books, both non fiction:

Rest assured I am not seeing a dime from plugging his book, but my uncle has a second novel coming out next month, and it was first on Oprah's summer reading list.

That's what I liked about it. It's more about how he came to be.PghSkins wrote:

Just finished up Valhalla Rising. I must say that I was underwhelmed. I may have had a preconceived notion about what to expect, though. I expected there to be much more integration of history/legend throughout the story, but it turned out to be pretty much tangential.shafnutz05 wrote:Clive Cussler is one of my favorite authors. Opps, just saw this. Yes, it is very good, good sense of humor and outlines a lot of what went down.bh wrote:I want to read this one. Like it so far?doublem wrote:The Big Short. Michael Lewis.
P.S. Liars Poker is great as well, kind of like a prequel to The Big Short.

Currently reading A Salty Piece of Land by Jimmy Buffett. Was a little skeptical, but heard good things about it. About halfway through now, it is very enjoyable, and was a perfect book to start reading on the beach in NC.

Hate Jimmy Buffett. Him, DMB, and Waffle House are all in the same overrated category, imo.
I am presently reading Youniverse: Toward a Self-Centered Philosophy of Immortalism and Cryonics. Its fantastic so far.
