And I still won't be able to see a Strasburg start, with Nats games somehow being blacked out here.

Re: Non-Pirates Baseball Thread
Strasburg may have just got pegged with a loss by his shortstop, Desmond. First and second, no outs, tailor-made double play ball and he boots it. Everyone safe. Bases loaded, no outs. 0-0 in the bottom of the 7th.
EDIT: Hinske sacrifice flies and the Nats' collapse continues as Morgan overthrows the cutoff man. Horrible baseball. 1-0 Braves.
EDIT2: My boy Escobar drives another run in. 2-0 Braves, first and third 1 out, Strasburg pulled. Struck out 7, so he doesn't get the record for K's in first 5 starts, 1 K short of the tie.
EDIT3: Safety squeeze turns into 0 outs. Blanco on first, first and second, 1 out, 3-0, game effectively over.
EDIT3: Not sure what just happened, the Nationals are a circus. 4-0, first and third, 1 out, top of the order coming up.

Hero.Heyward will be eligible to come off the DL during the All-Star break from July 12-14. He said if he can't play for the Braves before then, he won't jeopardize his status for the second half by trying to play in the All-Star game.

They just showed a shot of the Atlanta "crowd" on Baseball Tonight. I know they've never had great attendance, but wow, that was a sea of empty seats for a first place team. Its been like that since midway through the division titles streak. It really is pathetic. I thought that after a few seasons away from the playoffs, they'd be pumped to have such a well built team thats playing well and back in the drivers seat in the division.MWB wrote:They just showed a shot of the Atlanta "crowd" on Baseball Tonight. Actually reading up on the injury now. That's basically the best case scenario in terms of injury. No ligament damage but a small fracture? Good deal in terms of Career.doublem wrote:Done for the year. Reminds me of Tony Sauders.Malkamaniac wrote:Anyone see Joel Zumaya's arm implode?

I gotta think the toughest part will be mental and throwing all out again without worrying about the same thing happening.Malkamaniac wrote:Actually reading up on the injury now. I watched his interview from the day after. It seems he feels like the Tigers are done with him. Every time he said something it was a long the lines of, if I don't get to pitch here, I'll be pitching somewhere else.MWB wrote:I gotta think the toughest part will be mental and throwing all out again without worrying about the same thing happening.Malkamaniac wrote:Actually reading up on the injury now. I've always liked Joel. I liked him when he busted out, but then he's been injury plagued. I can't help but wonder if most of it is because of his pretty violent throwing motion. Just sad for the dude.

Tampa's won only 12 of their last 32 since May 23, only the Nationals (11-22), D-backs (10-23), Orioles (9-22) and Pirates (7-26) have been worse since then (I'll give honorable mention to the Indians at 13-21 as well). Not good company to be with.
If they keep that up much longer I think they have to deal Crawford before the deadline and see what they can get for him. Maybe even Upton (even though you'd be selling low) before he and Eva start beating each other around.

Yeah, it'll be really interesting to see how this plays out over the next month. If they stay within 5 games of the playoffs and deal Crawford it will be sad. I wonder if they've got a number in mind in terms of buy/sell come deadline day.beerman wrote:Tampa's won only 12 of their last 32 since May 23, only the Nationals (11-22), D-backs (10-23), Orioles (9-22) and Pirates (7-26) have been worse since then (I'll give honorable mention to the Indians at 13-21 as well). Yeah, I can't stand them but don't want to see them give up if they're in the race either. Although who knows how Jennings may do if they bring him in they might be able to lose Crawford and not take to big of a step back.MWB wrote:Yeah, it'll be really interesting to see how this plays out over the next month. I think they'll know where they stand by the first series after the ASB and make their decision by then. They have 1 more vs the Sox then 4 in Minnesota, 3 more with Boston before a Cleveland series. Then right after the break they get the Yanks. They better turn it around in the next week or they're going to get buried in a hurry imo.

Yeah I hate teams the build through the draft rather than just bullying their way through free agency.

I like teams that build through the draft. I actually prefer to see teams build that way, it's more fun to watch the prospects come along and do something of value for your team rather than see them blossom on another team. They built their team the right way and did a great job in doing it, and unfortunately for them they're in a crappy situation by being in the AL East. My dislike for the Rays has zero to do with how they were built.Idoit40fans wrote:Yeah I hate teams the build through the draft rather than just bullying their way through free agency.

Re: Non-Pirates Baseball Thread
Could the Red Sox be in a worse injury situation right now? The top three hitters in the batting order are out and their second best pitcher is out. If they can survive this and stay close they'll be in good shape.
