Re: 93.7 The Fan Now On
How is Madden getting these huge ratings?
2/3 of the time is taken up by commercials, updates, and music.... the other 1/3 is Mark whining about Ben's mistreatment by the local media or Smizik picking on him, or how he's the #1 guy in his slot. When I actually flipped over (what a mistake) to listen for a few minutes, he was talking to some Ramone brother trying to sell his book.... talk about pathetic.
If 93.7 FM, 970 AM, and 1250 AM can't figure out how to beat a guy with the same show, over and over again... what does that tell you about the radio business in Pittsburgh.

One person's guess:

The real mystery - to me - is how Chris Mack is able to make a living talking about sports.
I'm certain that every person on this board knows more about hockey than he does.

Re: 93.7 The Fan Now On
Especially the bolded part. If someone annoys me, I switch to another station. I listen to mostly DVE, the X, some 93.7, some 1250, and a few other random things. If one station or DJ annoys me, I switch.IronDukes37 wrote:Basically now I've settled in to listening to whatever I like at the moment and stopped worrying about which is better/worse, etc...
There are so many options now compared to even 6 months ago.
Mornings it's usually 93.7. 10am-2pm it's 93.7, 1250 or Sirius. 2-3 it's Sirius Mad Dog. 3-5 it's Madden, switching during the long music breaks.
5-8pm don't listen much, dinner. 8pm Sirius Ferrall or game on TV.

The music has been reduced a bit. More callers on MM.
1250 won't beat him with Mike Logan and Paulson on the air. Paulsen was good when he was Krenn's lackey.

I guess you gotta give him credit, he's making money and destroying his former employer in the process.

That just creeps me out a little bit.IronDukes37 wrote:One of the comments to Smizik asked "How are the ratings determined"
Arbitron radio ratings in Pittsburgh are determined by the PPM system:
http://www.arbitron.com/portable_people ... em_ppm.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; The Portable People Meter is a mobile-phone-sized device that consumers wear throughout the day that works by detecting identification codes that can be embedded in the audio portion of any transmission.

Re: 93.7 The Fan Now On
I wonder if this is why they changed their sports report tags from "93.7 The Fan" to "KDKA-FM"IronDukes37 wrote:One of the comments to Smizik asked "How are the ratings determined"

Re: 93.7 The Fan Now On
Whoever is on the air currently (Troy something). First, he brings up, "What was the point of building PNC Park?" Dude, that was 10 years ago. Now, he's been talking about Lebron James for 35-40 minutes. No one really cares about Lebron or basketball in this town. So, someone brings that point up and his statement was, "It's Cleveland."
I do like the Seibel and Starkey show on my way home from work. Also, Greg Giannotti is not bad.

Zeise does well on the Sunday Showdown on CBS. His Saturday show was always entertaining.

I don't think that it will since it is a CBS station...... I thought that there was another app out there.BadHands71 wrote:don't know. I've been keeping an eye out though.Fiddy wrote:when will this land on iheartradio?

It's been on for 5 months. My money's still on them to overtake ESPN at some point if ESPN continues to do nothing.
