Yeah, we got to keep 5 players under a cap and I had the wrap-around picks. I was excited to see both of them there.... not so excited now. Hard to find two more disappointing players. Needless to say, I'm not at the top of the standings this year.Cookestache wrote:MWB wrote:I hate that I drafted Pablo Sandoval and Adam Lind with the first two picks in one of my keeper leagues.

Looks like the Rays might be in on a Dunn deal. Apparently the Nats really want to get a good young pitcher for him, and the Rays can certainly offer better than Edwin Jackson.beerman wrote:Yeah I don't get that either. Dunn's bat should be a pretty hot comodity this deadline and they could do better than Jackson.MWB wrote:Don't really get what the upside is there for the Nats.... trading Dunn to get Jackson, and maybe a prospect?

I'm getting rather excited for the deadline. I love seeing who goes where and even just hearing about what was close to getting done and what fell through.
Seems like the biggest names out there are: Roy Oswalt, Edwin Jackson (not sure why), Scott Downs, Adam Dunn, Jayson Werth, Corey Hart and Prince Fielder. I think Fielder and Werth are the only ones who don't get moved.

Yeah, I love the deadline as well. I'd add Ted Lilly to that list and it seems like there's always a surprise move somewhere.

Rangers supposedly in on Fielder now. He'd be a great fit in that ballpark but with all they're going through I have a hard time believing they'd want to make a move like that. Maybe they fell they just need to go for it all this season and then move on after that.

Re: Non-Pirates Baseball Thread
Shane Victorino just got put on the DL, so that means that they probably can't trade Werth now which also seemlingly means they won't be willing to add the payroll involved to bring in Oswalt. If the Phils want a pitcher they'll have to settle for Jackson or Lilly.
Subsequently they've also called up top prospect Domonic Brown

Astros and Phils have agreed on a deal with Oswalt, but still waiting his approval. If this doesn't work out I don't think he'll end up being traded.

Jhonny Peralta was traded to Detroit
Agree on the Oswalt deal though, if they don't get this done now I don't think it will at all. He's already said he wants time to think about it and doesn't want approached with a trade scenario on Saturday right before the deadline. I didn't think the Phils would want to add that payroll without letting something go but I looked up the numbers and it seems this would keep them under the luxury tax which I had heard wasn't true a few days ago
I think there is going to end up being a ton of waiver deals next month.

Supposedly the deal has the Astros paying some of Oswalt's salary to help keep them under the cap. I assume that would mean better prospects going to Houston then.beerman wrote:I didn't think the Phils would want to add that payroll without letting something go but I looked up the numbers and it seems this would keep them under the luxury tax which I had heard wasn't true a few days ago![]()

Scott Podsednik also got dealt, to the Dodgers, which doesn't help my fantasy team once they have 4 healthy outfielders.

Re: Non-Pirates Baseball Thread
Yeah I figured the Astros would pick up some of the tab but the numbers I found had the Phils payroll at just over $141M and the luxury tax somewhere between $162-170M, so even Oswalt's entire salary wouldn't put them over even the low end.MWB wrote:Supposedly the deal has the Astros paying some of Oswalt's salary to help keep them under the cap. I read that the return for the Astros is JA Happ, Vance Worley and a few other prospects.

Re: Non-Pirates Baseball Thread
So my friends and I drove up to Cleveland to hopefully see A-Rod's 600th (he didn't) but the trip was still so worth it. So this dude shows up in our section with his gf wearing a Miami Heat lebron james jersey. At first ppl just heckle him like the whole bleachers stood up and chanted a-hole. Then he left and came back with a beer. Some guy slaps it out of his hand and it goes all over him. Then ppl just started like throwing stuff at him and security had to escort him and his gf out. People are just harassing him and his gf just attacks one guy and the cops just stood there. Looked like she got socked in the face. So like the entire bleachers emptied to watch this guy get escorted out and his gf was crying and stuff. Ppl were just chanting F Lebron and a-hole the whole way out. I felt bad for the gf but the dude was asking for it.

I think it's pretty awesome the guy wore the jersey there, F Cleveland.
He should've known he'd get this kind of reaction though.

I remember going to a pirates/giants game like 6/7 years ago and some little kid had on a bonds jersey-t. Some retards were heckling th little kid, that was annoying, those people need to let it go. But i approve of this heckling, wearing that jersey was intentionally antagonistic.SirMario66 wrote:So my friends and I drove up to Cleveland to hopefully see A-Rod's 600th (he didn't) but the trip was still so worth it. Sources are saying Oswalt is going to waive his NTC to go to Philly.
